Baldwin-Wallace College Women's Track Team Have Some Impressive Performances at the Kent State Meet

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's track and field team had some impressive performances on Saturday (Feb. 22) at the annual Kent State University Winter Tune-Up Meet in Kent.

For the Yellow Jackets, seniors Lynn Katanik (Parma Padua), Jessica Textoris (Akron/ Medina Highland) and Nicole Drouhard (Canfield/ Austintown Fitch) placed first, second and fourth respectively in the 5,000 meter run. Katanik won the event with a time of 17:59.08, Textoris was second in 18:05.26 and Drouhard fourth in 18:45.20. Textoris also placed 10th in the 1-mile run in 5:20.65.

The most impressive performances of the day were registered by junior Stacey Havaich (Austintown Fitch) and senior Tara Griskiewicz (Williamsfield/ Austintown Fitch) in the 800 meter run. Both bettered their NCAA Division III National Meet qualifying times. Havaich tied for fourth in the event with a time of 2:14.07 and Gruskiewicz was sixth in 2:14.24.

The top men's performance was turned in by junior Alex Johnson (Berea/ Olmsted Falls) as he betteredc his career-best indoors in the shot put with a throw of 51-feet and three and three-quarters inches.

In addition, freshman Lindsay Booth (Newcomerstown) was 17th in the 400 meter dash in 1:04.86 and sophomore Courtney Stelzer (Westerville/ Big Walnut) was 20th in 1:05.86; freshman Brigid McHugh (Rocky River/ St. Joseph Academy) was 25th in the 1-mile run in 5:51.85; junior Tara Perry (Brook Park/ Berea) was 28th in the 800 meter run in 2:29.42 and freshman Rebecca Price (Worthington/ Thomas Worthington) was 46th in 2:41.17; sophomore Lisa Bartkiewicz (Berea) was 11th in the 5000 meter run in 20:00.48; senior Lauren Harris (New Philadelphia) was 18th in the shot put with a throw of 36' 11" and freshman Amy Mauceri (Solon) was 31st with a throw of 33' 7.25"; junior Brian Adkins (Berea) was 15th in the 800 meter run in 2:00.40 and freshman Mike Randolph (Galion Senior) was 25th in 2:02.08; junior John Swindell (Olmsted Falls) was 22nd in the shot put with a throw of 42' 5.25", junior Jon Shoftstall (Lakeview/ Indian Lake) was 26th with a throw of 41' 8.75", freshman Josh Svenson (Wadsworth) was 28th with a throw of 41' 2.5" and junior Ian Formaz (Wadsworth) was 40th with a toss of 37' 8"; and Shoffstall was 12th in the 35-pound weight throw with a throw of 42' 4.75".

The Yellow Jacket men's and women's track and field teams will be back in action this Friday and Saturday, February 28 and March 1, when they host the 2003 Ohio Athletic Conference Track & Field Championship Meet in the B-W Recreation Center and on the Harrison Dillard Track. Action will begin on Friday at 2:00 p.m. and resume again on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.
