Seventh at the Division III All-Ohio Championship Meet
BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin-Wallace College women's indoor track and field team placed fourth and the men's team tied for seventh place at the Division III All-Ohio Championship Meet hosted by Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio.
Earning the only first place win for the Yellow Jackets was the women's distance medley relay ran by senior Megan Via (Brookville), sophomore Rebekah Paul (Gibsonburg), freshman D'Arcy Hlavin (Berea) and sophomore Ashley Scullion (Kentwood, Mich./ East Kentwood) in a time of 12:13.30. Placing second for the women's team was Paul in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.16, and freshman Jennifer Miller (Gnadenhutten/ Indian Valley) in the pole vault with a mark of 10-feet ,2-inches. Junior Megan Cathcart (Parma/ Senior) tied for third in the high jump with a mark of 5'2.25" and placing fourth for the Yellow Jackets were juniors Kristen Paulsen (Oberlin/ Firelands) in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.65 seconds and Magan Maleski (West Alexandria/ Twin Valley) in the pole vault with a vault of 9'8".
Earning the highest placings for the team on the men's side were senior Steve Johnson (Canton/ Central Catholic) and freshman Steven Price (North Olmsted) with third place finishes. Johnson earned a mark of 14'4" in the pole vault and Price jumped 21'6.75" in the long jump. Other placers on the men's side included two fourth place finishes in the throwing events. Senior Chris Aurand (Hudson/ Senior) threw 46'8" in the weight throw and freshman Greg Patrick (Collins/ Western Reserve) threw 46'6" in the shot put. Price, sophomore Chad Abraham (Cleveland/ Rhodes), freshman Kyrell Crook (Columbus/ St. Francis DeSales) and freshman Jayson Hedberg (Sandusky/ Perkins) placed fifth in the 4x200-meter relay with a combined effort to run a time of 1:33.99.
The Yellow Jacket track and field teams will continue competition next weekend when B-W hosts the Greater Cleveland Championship Meet on Friday night (Feb. 16) on the Harrison Dillard Indoor Track at the Lou Higgins Center in Berea, Ohio, field events begin at 4:15 p.m. and running events begin at 6:35 p.m. On Saturday (Feb. 17) select individuals will travel to Kent State University to compete in the Kent State Tune-up, meet starting at 11:00 a.m.
