The Baldwin Wallace University Women's Indoor Track Team Wins Second Straight
OAC Title and the Men Place Ninth
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's indoor track and field team captured its second straight Ohio Athletic Conference indoor title at the 2006 OAC Championship Meet at the Ohio Northern University Sports Center in Ada. The Yellow Jacket men finished ninth.
The Yellow Jacket women scored 158 points to outdistance second place Otterbein College by 24 points. The OAC title was BW's 18th in the last 22 years, including an OAC-record streak of 16 straight crowns from 1988 through 2002. The BW men scored 25 points.
Individual winners for the women included senior Liz Redd (Canton/ GlenOak) in the 300 meter dash in 42.17 seconds, freshman Casandra Turic (Poland/ Seminary) in the 800 meter run in 2:25.11, the 4 x 200 meter relay team in an ONU Sports Center record time of 1:45.49, sophomore Megan Cathcart (Parma/ Senior) in the high jump with a leap of five-feet and three inches and junior All-American Kara Weaver (Myrtle Creek, Oregon/ South Umpqua) in the long jump with an NCAA Division III national meet qualifying leap of 18' 3.25". The BW men did not have any champions.
The Yellow Jackets next compete when they open the 2006 outdoor season on Friday and Saturday, March 10-11 at the Disney Relays in Orlando, Florida. For Weaver, she will compete in the long jump at the NCAA Division III National Indoor Track & Field Championship Meet at St. Olaf (Minn.) College.
