BEREA, OHIO -- The Yellow Jacket men's and women's indoor track teams opened the 2004 season by hosting the annual Mid-January Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track.
On the women's side sophomore Mary Griglak (Cleveland/ Lutheran West) ran a career best 7.57 to capture first in the 55-meter dash. In the 1000-meter run senior Stacey Havaich (Austintown/ Fitch) ran 3:11.38, which was good enough for first place. Junior Brittany Schaueblin (Canton/South) won the women's triple jump with a jump of 32"9 1/2", senior Amren Fraser (Brook Park/ Middleburg Heights Midpark) won the women's high jump with a jump of 5'2", and the women's 4x400-meter relay, comprised of Havaich, freshmen Katie Sako (Medina/ Highland) and Brittany Pochatek (North Olmsted), and sophomore Ashlee Pence (Newark/ Licking Heights) won with a time of 4:39.15.
For the men, freshman Nile Smith (Killbuck/ Millersburg West Holmes) and senior Brian Adkins (Berea) were the only two winners. Smith in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:08.44 and Adkins in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:40.64. However the men did have two individuals qualify provisionally for nationals. Senior Alex Johnson (Berea/ Olmsted Falls) in the shot put and junior Eric Schmuhl (Medina/ Senior) in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.30.
The Yellow Jackets will next be action next Saturday January 31 when they host the Ohio Athletic Conference Relay Meet which begins at 11:00 a.m.
