Both Yellow Jacket Indoor Track Teams Claim Titles at the Greater Cleveland College Championships

BEREA, OHIO -- Both the Baldwin-Wallace College men's and women's indoor track and field teams claimed team titles at the annual Greater Cleveland College Indoor Championship Meet hosted by the Yellow Jackets in the B-W Recreation Center and on the Harrison Dillard Track.

The Yellow Jacket women won their meet title with 170 points. It marked the third straight week that the B-W women have won a meet crown. The two previous week, B-W claimed meet titles at the Case Western Reserve University and again at last Friday's annual Paul "Sparky" Adams Meet in Berea.

The Yellow Jacket men claimed their meet crown with 152 points.

The B-W women had four individual winners and two winning relay teams. Winning individually were sophomore Mary Griglak (Cleveland/ Lutheran West) in the 55-meter dash in 7.69 seconds, senior Amren Fraser (Brook Park/ Midpark) in the high jump with a jump of 5'4", senior All-American Jen Southall (Willoughby/ South) in the 800-meter run in 2:22.13 and freshman Katie Sako (Medina/ Highland) in the 500-meter run in 1:28.04. Griglak also ran on the winning 800 meter and 1600 meter relay teams. In the 4 x 200 relay, she teammed with sophomore Lizz Redd (North Canton/ GlenOak), junior Rhiannon Regal (Painesville/ Harvey) and senior Barbie Yeazell (Enon/ Greenon) to win in a time of 1:50.44. On the 4 x 400 relay squad Griglak teammed with Redd, freshman Rihana Knotts (Middletown/ Madison) and senior Stacey Havaich (Austintown Fitch) to win in 4:10.65.

The Yellow Jacket men had six individual winners, led by double-winner junior Eric Schmuhl (Medina/Senior). He won the 55 meter hurdles in a time of 7.85 seconds and the 300 meter run in 36.76 seconds. Other winners were freshman Sean Johnson (Alliance/ Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas) won the 500 meter run in 1:08.74, freshman Nile Smith (Killbuck/ Millersburg West Holmes) won the 400-meter run in 51.39, sophomore Mark Miracola (Olmsted Falls) won the long jump with a jump of 20' 6" and seniors Alex Johnson (Berea/Olmsted Falls) and Jon Shoffstall (Lakeville/ Indian Lake) won the shot put and weight throw, respectively. Johnson won with a career-best and NCAA Division III national qualifying throw of 52'11". Shoffstall won with a throw of 46'1.50".

Select members of the Yellow Jacket women's and men's teams will run in a meet at Kent State tomorrow, which will start at 11 a.m. All the members of both teams will be in action next Friday February 27 when they travel to Ohio Northern to run in an ONU Friday Night Series Meet at 6:00 p.m.
