The BW Track Teams Host the Annual Greater Cleveland College Indoor Track &

Field Championship Meet This Friday in Berea

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's indoor track and field teams will host the annual Greater Cleveland College Indoor Track & Field Championship Meet this Friday, February 20 in the BW Recreation Center and on the Harrison Dillard Track. This is the fifth week of the 2004 indoor track season. The meet will begin with the weight throw at 4:15 p.m. For a full schedule of events, please click here.

To date, the Yellow Jacket men and women have competed indoors for four weeks. Last Friday, the women captured the team title at the annual "Sparky" Adams Invitational Meet on the Dillard Track. It was the second straight week that the BW women won a team crown.

The women finished first of seven teams and the men were fifth of nine schools at the Adams Meet. In addition, last Saturday, a select group of competitors traveled to Ohio Northern to compete at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Indoor Championship Meet at the ONU Sports Center.

At the Adams Meet, the women, were had four individual winners and one winning relay team. Sophomore Mary Griglak (Cleveland/ Lutheran West) won the 55 meter dash in 7.63 seconds, senior Staey Havaich (Aust-intown Fitch) won the 1500 meter run in 4:55.86, senior Amren Fraser (Brook Park/ Midpark) won the high jump at 5'2" and senior Jen Southall (Willoughby South) won the 5000 meter run in 18:46.07. Griglak was joined on the winning 800 meter relay team by junior Jayna Rasmussen (Westlake/ Lutheran West), junior Rihannon Regal (Painesville Harvey) and sophomore Liz Redd (Canton GlenOak) as the quartet was first in 1:51.89. The BW men did not have an individual champion at the Adams Meet.

At the All-Ohio Meet, senior Alex Johnson (Berea/ Olmsted Falls) was the top Yellow Jacket competitor as he won the shot put with a throw of 50-feet and three and one-half inches.

Johnson is Qualified for Division III National Indoor Meet -- To date, Johnson is the lone BW track student-athlete to have qualified for this year's NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship Meet.

Greater Cleveland Meet Prompted by The Plain Dealer -- The annual Greater Cleveland College Indoor Track & Field Championship Meet was promoted in 1986 by The Plain Dealer, Cleveland's largest daily newspaper which covers a seven-county area. It was designed to get all of the area college track teams together, and make it easier for The Plain Dealer to cover them.

Roberts to Rejoin Track Team -- Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference hurdler Scott Roberts (Sandusky Perkins) will rejoin the indoor track team either this or next weekend. Roberts, who won the 100-yard butterfly event at last weekend's OAC Swimming & Diving Championships, is one of BW's top 400 meter hurdler outdoors. In addition, sophomore Adam Gaydos (Mentor/ Gilmour Academy) will be competing in his first season of track.

OAC Championship Meet at Capital -- The 2004 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place on March 5-6 in Columbus. The event takes place at The Capital Center.
