2010-11 B-W Outstanding Senior Male Athlete: Kevin Phipps is the 2010-11 Baldwin-Wallace College Outstanding Senior Male Athlete. He is one of the most celebrated football-track student-athletes in school history.
2011
Indoors, Earned Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Field Athlete of the Week honors on January 24, 2011 for his efforts in the season-opening Mid-January Meet on Jan. 21...Named OAC Field Athlete of the Week on February 7 for his performance in the Findlay Open Meet where he set school records in the weight throw (63' 3.25") and shot put (56'1") and automatically qualifying for the 2011 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship Meet in each event...
Outdoors, Kevin has already established school-records in the discus (174'5") and hammer (198'5") and is qualified nationally for the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University in the hammer, discus and shot put. Kevin led B-W to the 2011 All-Ohio indoor and outdoor titles...He was named as the OAC Field Event Athlete of the Week for his efforts at the April 23 "Sparky" Adams Meet at B-W... Kevin won an OAC Championship in the hammer and led the Yellow Jackets to a second place finish.
2010
Indoors, Kevin earned third varsity letter as a junior...became B-W's first-ever weight throw All-American with seventh-place finish (60 feet, one and three-quarter inches) at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Championships...was OAC champion and set the OAC and B-W school record with a career-best weight throw of 61'1.25" at the OAC Indoor Championships...hit the NCAA automatic qualifying standard and broke the old OAC weight throw record by over four feet...also finished fourth in the shot put (50'2.75") at the OAC Indoor Meet...won the weight throw (58'8.75") and was second in the shot put (51'9") at the All-Ohio Indoor Meet...named OAC Co-Field Event Athlete of the Week with teammate Greg Patrick on February 1, 2010 after the duo set meet records at the OAC Relays in the weight throw relay (108'7") and shot put relay (101'4")...re-set the school-record in the weight throw four times during the indoor season.
Outdioors, Kevin earned All-America honors with a sixth-place finish in the discus (168'0") and with a sixth-place finish in the weight throw (193'5") at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships hosted by B-W...became B-W's first-ever hammer throw All-American...set the school-record in the hammer at the All-Ohio Outdoor Meet with a winning mark of 194'10"...also placed second in the discus at the All-Ohio Meet and was subsequently named OAC Field Event Athlete of the Week on April 19...re-set the hammer throw school-record three times during the outdoor season...set the school-record in the discus throw with a mark of 172'11" at the Allegheny (Pa.) Gator Invite...hit the NCAA automatic qualifying standard in the discus and hammer throws...won the hammer throw (191'11") and placed third in discus (172'5") at the OAC Outdoor Championships...now a four-time All-American (three outdoors, once indoors)...also an All-OAC defensive lineman on the B-W football team.
2009
Earned second varsity letter as a sophomore...posted a season-best in the weight throw with a then school-record toss of 56'6.50"...won the OAC weight throw championship and qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships...named OAC Field Athlete of the Week on April 13, 2009...won the OAC outdoor discus throw with a toss of 154'5"...became the first B-W male to earn All-American honors in the discus since 1975 after placing seventh at the NCAA Championships.
2008
Earned first varsity letter as a freshman...earned outdoor All-Ohio honors with a discus throw of 144’5” at the All-Ohio Meet… achieved outdoor All-OAC honors with a third-place hammer throw of 146’5”… recorded team-bests with a 152’03” discus throw and a 148’01” hammer throw…earned indoor All-OAC honors by placing third in the weight throw (44’9”).
