Four Baldwin-Wallace College Winter Student-Athletes Earn OAC Athlete of the Week Honors

BEREA, OHIO --  Four Baldwin-Wallace College winter sport student-athletes, junior Division III All-American thrower Mitch Supan (Medina/Walsh Jesuit), junior thrower Cristina Perrine (Middleburg Heights/Midpark), sophomore men’s basketball player Kevin Krakowiak (Valley City/Holy Name) and junior 4-time All-American diver Julie Pinter (Broadview Heights/ Brecksville-Broadview Hts.), have been named as Ohio Athletic Cnference players-of-the-week (Monday, January 30, 2012).

This is the fourth time that Pinter has won the award, including the second time this season, it is the second time for Supan and the first for both Krakowiak and Perrine.

Supan won the shot put and weight throw at the OAC North Split Squad Meet on Friday, January 27 in Berea. He won the shot put with a career-best throw of 52-feet (ranks 13th in Division III) and the weight throw with a throw of 57'4.75" (ranks 20th in Division III).  Supan earned Division III All-American honors as both a freshman and sophomore.

Perrine also won both the shot put and weight throw as the Yellow Jacket women captured the OAC North Split Squad Meet. She won the shot put with a career-best throw of 42-feet and one-half inch (ranks 13th in Division III) and the weight throw with a career-best toss of 54'7.25" (9th in Division III).

The track teams return to action this Saturday, February 4 when they travel to Wooster, Ohio to compete at The College of Wooster Invitational Meet at 5:00 p.m.

Krakowiak scored 42 points, grabbed six rebounds, passed for two assists, made three steals and blocked two shots in a pair of Yellow Jacket games last week. He scored a career-high 31 points in an 80-74 win versus Heidelberg University on Wednesday, January 25 and added 11 points against Wilmington College last Saturday, January 28. Krakowiak made 18-of-30 field goals for 60 percent, including 5-of-9 three-pointers for 55.6%. He also was 1-of-1 from the foul line, passed for two assists, made three steals and blocked a pair of shots.  Krakowiak scores 13.6 ppg. and is second on the team with 31 three-pointers.

The men’s basketball team is at Otterbein University this Wednesday, February 1 at 7:30 p.m. and returns home to play Muskingum University on Saturday, February 4 at 3:00 p.m.

Pinter is one of the most celebrated student-athletes in school history. The speech and communications disorders major who carries a 3.8 grade point average, won all four events in meets at Case Western Reserve University (January 27) and John Carroll University (January 28). She is undefeated against Division III competition this season. At Case, Pinter won the 1-meter event with 261.15 points and the 3-meter event with 258.85 points.  At John Carroll, she won the 1-meter event with 325.90 points and the 3-meter event with 344.35 points.

The swimmers and divers are now idle until Feb. 16-18 when they compete at the 2012 OAC Championship Meet at the University of Akron.
