Three Baldwin-Wallace Student Athletes Selected As OAC Players of the Week
BEREA, OHIO – Baldwin-Wallace College senior thrower Kevin Phipps (Reynoldsburg/Watkins Memorial), senior 197-pound wrestler Tristan Stoll (Milan/Edison) and sophomore diving sensation Julie Pinter (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) are this week’s (January 24, 2011) Ohio Athletic Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, Wrestler of the Week and Women’s Swimmer of the Week, respectively, for their efforts last week.

This marks the first time Phipps has received the award in indoor track and field but his third overall as he has earned two outdoor selections. Stoll earns his second honor of the season (December 13) and third of career while Pinter takes home her third of the season (November 8 and 15) and fourth overall in her brief two year career.
Phipps earned his award for winning the weight throw and shot put events this past weekend at the B-W Mid-January Meet on Harrison Dillard Track. He won the weight throw with a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark of 55’10.25’’ and also won the shot put with an NCAA Division III qualifying provisional mark of 54’4’”. Phipps is the defending OAC Indoor Champion in the weight throw and the runner-up in the shot put. He became the first Yellow Jacket All-American in the weight throw at last season’s NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Stoll earned his award for going undefeated at the Mel Berry Duals hosted by Thiel (Pa.) College last weekend. He recorded three pins and his other victory came by forfeit. Stoll now has 10 pins of the season and improved his season record to 17-4 overall. Earlier this season, he captured the individual title at 197 pounds in the season-opening Messiah (Pa.) Tournament with a 4-0 record and also finished second at the Rochester Institute of Technology Tournament.
Pinter, a two-time NCAA Division III All-American competitor and the 2009-10 OAC Diver of the Year, earned her award for capturing first place finishes in both the one-meter optional and one-meter voluntary events last Friday, January 21 against Allegheny (Pa.) College and Hiram College in a tri-meet in Berea. She also won the three-meter event on Saturday, January 22 in a loss at Ohio Northern University where she set the B-W school record with 287.20 points. Pinter currently holds the school-record and the B-W Natatorium record in the one-meter optional (259:50 pts.), three-meter optional (287.20), one-meter championship (467.53 pts.), three-meter championship (446.92 pts.) and the B-W Natatorium record in the one-meter championship (426.40 pts.) events.
The B-W track and field teams are back in action on Saturday, January 29 when they travel to Bexley to participate in the OAC Relays hosted by Capital University. The meet is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
The B-W grapplers are back in action tomorrow night January 25 when they travel to Wilmington, Ohio to face the Quakers of Wilmington College in an OAC match. at 7:30 p.m. The next home match is on Tuesday, February 1 when B-W hosts Muskingum University in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center at 7:30 p.m. That match will be taped and televised by SportsTime Ohio on Feb. 2 at 12:00 noon and again on Feb. 3 at both 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
The swimmers and divers return to action on Saturday, January 29 when they host cross-town rival John Carroll University in a Senior’s and Parents Day meet at 1:00 p.m.
