INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Three Baldwin-Wallace College Yellow Jacket indoor track and field student-athletes have qualified for the 2011 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championship Meet this Friday and Saturday, March 11-12 at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. The trio each will be looking to garner NCAA Division III All-America acclaim (top eight in each event).
The three qualifiers are senior four-time Division III All-American Kevin Phipps (Patsakala/ Watkins Memorial), senior track and cross country All-American Kim Chinn (Zanesville/ West Muskingum) and senior pentathlete Emily Oliver (Waynesburg/ Sandy Valley). All three competitors own school records in their specialty events, all have earned Ohio Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honors this winter and each has a better than 3.0 grade point average in the classroom.
Phipps, the school-record holder in the shot put and 35-pound weight throw, will compete in each event. He will compete in the weight throw on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and in the shot put on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
He earned All-American accolades indoors last winter with a seventh place finish in the weight throw. Phipps is the 2011 Ohio Athletic Conference Bud Yoest Co-Most Outstanding Field Event Athlete. This winter, Phipps helped the men’s indoor track team record three team titles in five scored meet and a 42-4 overall record. In the classroom, Phipps maintains a 3.0 grade average in exercise science.

Chinn and Oliver also are school record-setters who helped the B-W women’s team capture both the 2011 OAC and Division III All-Ohio team titles, claim five team championships in five invitational meets that were scored and compile a perfect 45-0 record.
Chinn, who reset the school-record in the mile last Saturday in the University of Mount Union “Last Chance" Meet in Alliance with a time of 4:58.79, enters the meet ranked 12th of 15 competitors. Last spring, Chinn was the Division III national runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and this fall, she placed 13th at the Division III national cross country meet. This winter, Chinn was tabbed as the Julie Zajac OAC Most Outstanding Distance Runner. Last spring, she earned OAC Outdoor Track Runner of the Year honors and this fall was the OAC Co-Most Valuable Cross Country Runner. In the classroom, Chinn maintains a 3.8 grade average mass communications. Chinn will compete in the preliminaries of the mile beginning on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The final is Saturday at 4:45 p.m.
Oliver returns to the national meet ranked sixth this year with a school-record 3,317 points after placing 15th at last year’s NCAA Division III national indoor meet.
