BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin-Wallace College women’s indoor track and field team stands second and the men fourth after the first day of the 2008 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet at the Rike Center in Westerville and at Otterbein College. A number of solid performances were turned in by the Yellow Jacket men and women.
The women totalled 25 points and are three points back of first place Capital University. The B-W men have 15 points and are 26 shy of the top spot.
For the Yellow Jacket women individully, junior All-American Ashley Scullion (Kentwood, Mich./ East Kentwood) had a good first day as she won the 3000-meter run in 10:31.98 seconds. In addition in the 3000, senior Kristen Balogh (Loveland) placed fourth in 10:55.78. Also scoring for the women was the champion Distance Medley Relay team that won in 12:31.33 overall. Team members were freshman Kim Chinn (Zanesville/ West Muskingum), sophomore Brittany Giesken (Ottawa/ Ottawa-Glandorf), freshman Krysten Kovach (North Royalton) and junior Rebekah Paul (Gibsonburg).
For the men individually, sophomore Steve Price (North Olmsted) fnished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 22-feel and five and three-quarters inches and freshman Brian Gibbons (Rocky River) was seventh in the 3000 meters in 8:59.83. In addition, the Distance Medley Relay team of senior Aaron Apathy (Parma/ Padua), sophomore Jeff Bonezzi (Medina/ Senior), junior Nate Bowen (Fremont/ Ross) and junior Alan Kidon (Chardon) placed second in 10:31.21.
The final day of competition will take place on Saturday, March 8, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
