Numerous Yellow Jackets Receive Spring Honors

BEREA, OHIO -- The 2003 spring sport student-athletes at Baldwin-Wallace College areceived numerous accolades for excellence both on the field and in the classroom. Below is a listing of the top award winners as well as the first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference, Academic All-OAC and first-team Verizon Academic All-District honorees. 2002-2003 Baldwin-Wallace College Most Outstanding Senior Athletes -- Volleyball and basketball standout Sarah Gordon (Wooster Senior) was named as the Most Outstanding Senior Female Athlete. Baseball standout Pat Shannon (Madison, Conn./ Daniel Hand) was named as the Most Outstanding Senior Male Athlete.

2002-2003 B-W Clyde Lamb Award Winners -- Sarah Gordon (Wooster Senior/ 3.8 grade point average in spychology) was named as B-W's female Ohio Athletic Conference Clyde Lamb Award winner, symbolic of the College's Most Outstanding Student-Athlete. Senior football standout and two-time first-team Verizon Academic All-American offensive center Matt Kish (Brook Park/ Middleburg Heights Midpark/ 3.983 grade average in history) was named as the men's Clyde Lamb Award winner.

Nicole Loudin Named Softball OAC Rookie of the Year -- Freshman catcher Nicole Loudin (Sheffield Lake/ Elyria Catholic) was named as the OAC Rookie of the Year.

Tim Budic Named the Jim Wuske OAC Most Outstanding Runner -- Senior Tim Budic (Willowick/ Eastlake North) won the 3,000 meter steeplechase and the 5,000 meter run at the 2003 OAC Championship Meet and was named as the Jim Wuske OAC Most Outstanding Runner Award winner.

Named First-Team All-OAC in Baseball -- Senior shortstop Jim Leffler (Chagrin Falls) and senior first baseman Pat Shannon (Madison, Conn./ Daniel Hand) were named first-team for the second straight year. The duo were named All-OAC for the third straight season.  (All-OAC Baseball Team in PDF)

Named First-Team Academic All-OAC in Baseball -- Senior shortstop Jim Leffler (Chagrin Falls), senior first baseman Pat Shannon (Madison, Conn./ Daniel Hand), senior outfielder Brian Keller (Vermilion) and senior pitcher Ryan Petrusky (Cuyahoga Falls) were all named first-team Academic All-OAC players. It is the second straight first-team honor for Leffler and third time he has been tabbed Academic All-OAC. (Academic All-OAC Baseball Team in PDF)

Named First-Team All-OAC in Softball -- Freshman catcher Nicole Loudin (Sheffield Lake/ Elyria Catholic) and senior pitcher/ SS Evie Evans (Painesville Harvey) were first-team All-OAC selections. It marked the fourth straight year that Evans was named All-OAC. (Softball All-OAC Team in PDF)

Named First-Team Academic All-OAC in Softball -- Senior third baseman Stacey Floom (Massillon Jackson), sophomore pitcher Liz Fries (Columbus/ Bishop Watterson) and senior center fielder Amanda Roble (Columbiana) were named first-team Academic All-OAC.  (Academic All-OAC Softball Team in PDF)

Named First-Team All-OAC in Men's Tennis -- Sophomore first singles player Ward Crane (Hudson/ Western Reserve Academy) and second singles standout Mike Wagner (Avon Lake) were named as first-team All-OAC selections for the second straight year. (Men's Tennis All-OAC Team in PDF)

Named First-Team Men's Academic All-OAC in At-Large -- Ward Crane, who carries a 3.8 grade average in business administration, was named first-team Academic All-OAC At-Large. (Men's Academic All-OAC At-Large Team in PDF)

Named First-Team Women's Academic All-OAC in At-Large -- Senior swimmer/ women's golfer Jess Lawson (Akron/ Revere) was named as a first-team Academic All-OAC At-Large pick. (Women's Academic All-OAC At-Large Team in PDF)

Named First-Team All-OAC in Men's Golf -- Sophomore Steve Weir (Brunswick), who was the OAC Tournament medalist, and sophomore Mark Speaks (Wooster/ Waynedale), who placed eighth individually, were All-OAC. Weir was also All-OAC as a freshman. (Men's Golf All-OAC Team in PDF)

Named First-Team All-OAC in Women's Golf -- Freshmen Lauren Buckner (West-lake) and Emily Scheetz (Massillon Perry), who placed ninth and 10th, respectively, at the OAC Tournament, both earned All-OAC honors. (Women's Golf All-OAC Team in PDF)

Named First-Team Academic All-OAC in X-Country/ Track -- The Yellow Jackets had six cross country/ track and field student-athletes named first-team Academic All-OAC. For the men they were junior thrower Alex Johnson (Olmsted Falls) and junior hurdler Scott Roberts (Sandusky Perkins). For the women they are senior distance runner Nicole Drouhard (Canfield/ Austintown Fitch), senior 800 meter standout Tara Gruskiewicz (Williamsfield/ Pymatuning Valley), senior sprinter Mary LaSalvia (North Ridgeville) and senior distance standout Jessica Textoris (Akron/ Medina Highland).

Track and Field Champions -- In track, B-W had six individual OAC champions who won eight total events and a winning relay team. For the men, senior middle distance and distance runner Tim Budic (Eastlake North) won the 3,000 meter steeplechase and the 5,000 meter run and senior distance ace Brad Geletka (Kirtland) won the 10,000 meter run. For the women, senior distance ace Jessica Textoris (Akron/ Medina Highland) won the 3,000 meter steeplechase and the 5,000 meter run. Senior Nicole Drohard (Canfield/ Austintown Fitch) won the 10,000 meter run. Senior Tara Gruskiewicz (Williamsfield/ Pymatuning Valley) won the 800 meter run. Senior Sarah Guba (Berea) won the javelin. In addition, the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Gruskiewicz, juniors Tara Perry (Berea) and Jen Southall (Willoughby South) and senior Lynn Katanik (Parma Padua) were also victorious.  (Track and Field All-OAC Teams in PDF)
