Jim Meyer Named as Women's Golf Coach and Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at Baldwin-Wallace

BEREA, OHIO -- James "Jim" Meyer has been named as the new Head Coach for women's golf and as an assistant coach in women's basketball at Baldwin-Wallace College.

Meyer takes over a women's golf program that has finished in the top eight of the NCAA Division III National Tournament during two of the past three years. In women's basketball, Meyer will assist Head Coach Cheri Harrer in a program that has made Division III national tourney appearances in six of the past seven years.

"Jim Meyer brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in all aspects of intercollegiate athletics to Baldwin-Wallace College," said Harrer, who also serves at B-W's Women's Athletic Director. "At each place that Jim has coached, worked and/ or taught he has been successful in helping that program achieve success. We are confident that he will continue an already strong tradition of a success in both women's golf and basketball."

Meyer is a 1991 graduate of Cleveland State University. He comes to B-W after serving as the head women's basketball coach at Southampton (N.Y.) College the past two years. Prior to Southampton, Meyer was an assistant coach at Long Island (N.Y.) University - Brooklyn (1997-2000), Gannon (Pa.) University (1996-97) and Olmsted Falls High School (1993-96).

At Southampton, Meyer had a 28-27 career record, including a school-record 14 wins as a first-year mentor in 1999-2000. A year ago, Meyer led the Colonials to the ECAC postseason tournament with a team comprised of 11 freshmen and starters.

"I look forward to continuing a strong tradition in women's golf and women's basketball at B-W," said Meyer. "Every year our goals are to win the OAC title and return to the NCAA Division III National Tournament."

Meyer will reside in Berea with his wife Cathy.

Meyer replaces Mike Gallagher in women's golf and Tom Spencer in women's basketball. Gallagher will continue to be the Head Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Coach and become an assistant in the sports information office. Spencer will continue to be the Head Softball Coach.
