BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace senior forward Shawn McCormick (Massillon/Jackson) and Heidelberg junior post Lucas Messer (Clyde) have been named as this week's Ohio Athletic Conference Co-Players of the Week for the holiday break (from December 22, 2002 through January 4, 2003).
McCormick, a graduate student in the Mater's of Business Administration program, tallied a tournament-high 85 points, including a career-high 34 points in an 83-59 victory against Edgewood (Wisc.) at the Cactus Hoop Jam Tournament in Pheonix, Arizona. In that game, McCormick also grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds. For the tourney, he had 26 total rebounds and had eight steals in three games. †For his efforts, McCormick was named to the all-tournament team.
For the season, McCormick, a three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference player, leads the Yellow Jackets in scoring at 20.4 points per game and is second on the team in rebounding at 5.6 rebounds per game. He also leads the team in free-throw shooting at 93.2 percent (41 of 44 attempts) and with 26 steals.
For his career, McCormick has 1,569 points entering Wednesday night's Yellow Jacket home game with Ohio Northern University at 7:30 p.m. in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium. He ranks sixth on the all-time Yellow Jacket scoring list. Next up for McCormick is Shelley Waters (1979-82) who scored 1,627 points in his brilliant four-year career.
Following its game on Wednesday with ONU, B-W will also be home on Saturday to play 23rd-ranked Capital University in Berea at 3:00 p.m.
