Matt Kish and Joe Harbour Named Academic All-American

Complete List of 2002 Verizon Academic All-Americans

BEREA, OHIO —  Two Baldwin-Wallace College football student-athletes, senior offensive center Matt Kish (Brook Park/ Middleburg Heights Midpark High School) and junior offensive guard Joe Harbour (Upper Sandusky H.S.), have been named as 2002 Verizon Academic All-Americans.

Matt Kish        The double Academic All-American honors marks the first time since 1997 that B-W has had two Academic All-Americans in the same year and the sixth time in school history.

Kish is a repeat first-team Verizon Academic All-American and the first repeat winner since defensive end David Coverdale ’95, who earned the accolades in both 1993 and 1994.  Kish is also the fifth overall two-time honoree in school history. This fall, he was a unanimous first-team Academic All-OAC selection and is a three-time first-team pick overall.  He also earned first-team Verizon Academic All-District IV honors for the third straight year.  Kish served as a team captain in 2002 and was a two-year starter.  He is an education major who carries a 3.938 grade point average and wants to teach high school history and coach football.  Both as a junior in 2001 and senior in 2002, Kish received the Lee Tressel Scholar-Athlete Award at the annual football banquet.

In addition to being an outstanding student, football player and team-leader, Kish is a member of the Dean’s List and Alpha Lambda Academic Honor Society.  He also was a judge for the Northeast Ohio Division of the National History Day competition.

Joe Harbour        Harbour was tabbed as a second-team Verizon Academic All-American.  He split time this fall at guard, both starting and as a backup and was a key mainstay on an offensive line that helped the Yellow Jackets total more than 417 yards of offense and 38.1 points per game.  He was also a first-team Academic All-OAC and first-team Verizion Academic All-District IV honors.  A year ago, Harbour was an honorable mention Academic All-OAC pick and a first-team Academic All-District IV choice.

In addition to football, Harbour is a member of the Alpha Lmbda Academic Honor Society and the Dean’s List. He carries a 3.93 grade point average in education and history.  He is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Both Kish and Harbour will be honored for their achievements at a home basketball game at a date and time to be announced.
