Sarah Gordon and Pat Shannon Named Most Outstanding Athletes; Gordon and Matt Kish win Clyde Lamb

BEREA, OHIO -- Senior standouts Sarah Gordon (Wooster/ Senior) and Pat Shannon (Madison, Conn./ Daniel Hand) have been named as the 2003 Outstanding Senior Female and Male Athletes of the Year.

Sarah Gordon, SeniorGordon, an All-OAC and Academic All-OAC volleyball and basketball player, is one of the greatest student-athletes ever to grace the Berea-based campus.

In volleyball, Gordon was a two-time All-OAC second-team selection and earned first-team Academic All-OAC honors in the Fall of 2002. She led the team to its first-ever OAC regular season title (2001) and an NCAA Division III Tournament berth (2000). During her career, Gordon had more than 1,000 kills and 1,000 defensive digs.

In basketball, Gordon was a two-time All-OAC and two-tikme Academic All-OAC player. She helped

B-W win two OAC regular season and two OAC Tournament titles and appear in the NCAA Division III Tournament three times. For her career, Gordon scored 877 points, grabbed 302 rebounds and made 99 three-pointers.

Gordon, a psychology major with a better than 3.8 grade point average, has already accepted a graduate assistantship at the University of Akron.

Pat ShannonShannon is the most prolific power hitter in baseball to ever wear the Brown & Gold. He is a three-time All-OAC player, including a two-time first-team pick; a three-time Academic All-OAC pick, including as a first-team choice this spring; and is three-time Verizon Academic All-District IV player.

During his career, Shannon set seasonal records for doubles (18 in 2003), home runs (16 in 2002) and RBI (49 in 2002) and slugging average (.828 in 2002). He also set career marks for homers (35), RBI (143), slugging average (.744), times being hit-by-pitch (18), putouts (822). He also tied the career doubles mark (36).

Shannon has already accepted a position as a financial advisor for American Express.

 


The Clyde Lamb Award Winners

Matt KishBEREA, OHIO -- Seniors Sarah Gordon (Wooster/ Senior) and Matt Kish (Brook Park/ Middleburg Heights Midpark) have been named as the 2003 Clyde Lamb Female and Male Scholar-Athletes of the Year at B-W. Both will be honored at the annual OAC Awards dinner tomorrow (Monday, May 12) in Columbus.

Gordon (see honors and awards above). She is the first female in the history of Baldwin-Wallace College to be both named as the Outstanding Senior Female Athlete and as the Clyde Lamb Award recipient.

Kish, a history major with a 3.98 grade average, was a three-time first-team Academic All-OAC selection and a three-time Verizon Academic All-District IV player. He was subsequently tabbed as a first-team Verizon College Division Academic All-America player.

This fall, Kish served as a team captain as the Yellow Jackets compiled an 8-2 record. He is a two-year starter and three-year varsity contributor.

Kish plans to begin a teaching career this fall.
