Saturday; Ehrman Ties School Record for Consecutive Games with a Reception
BEREA, OHIO -- Senior wide receiver Dave Ehrman (Strongsville) caught one pass for 39 yards and one touchdown to tie former All-American Lance Yandell for consecutive games with a reception with 35 as the Baldwin-Wallace College football team defeated Wilmington College, 31-7, in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup at Williams Field in Wilmington, Ohio on Saturday.
With the win, B-W is 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the OAC and Wilmington falls to 1-2, 1-1 OAC.
B-W would get on the board first with 7:14 left in the first quarter on a 39-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Mike DiAngelo (Steubenville/ Senior) to Ehrman. Sophomore safety Jake Knipp (Amherst/ Marion Steele) would recover a fumble during the next Quaker series leading to a 26-yard TD completion to sophomore wideout Scott Kovelan (Westlake/ North Olmsted) from fellow wide receiver Tom Murphy (Richfield/ Revere) on a reverse/wide receiver pass play. The Yellow Jackets would score their third touchdown in a period of :42 seconds on a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown by Knipp to take a commanding 21-0 lead after the first quarter.
B-W would add to its lead in the second quarter on a four-yard touchdown completion to senior TE Nate Wilder (Youngstown/ Cardinal Mooney) from DiAngelo to take a 28-0 lead with 6:37 left in the half. Senior kicker Aaron Redd (Swanton) increased the lead to 31-0 on a 25-yard field goal to end the first half.
Wilmington would score its only points of the game in the fourth quarter when wide receiver Brent Scherz threw a 57-yard TD pass to Deon Short with 4:00 left in the game. Neither team would score again as B-W went on to win 31-7.
B-W accounted for 380 yards of total offense (117 rushing, 263 passing). Sophomore running back Brandon Hedges (Oregon/ Clay) led all rushers with 63 yards on 15 carries. DiAngelo completed 17 of 30 passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions. Senior wideout Gary Kopchak (Brookpark/ Midpark) led the B-W receivers with three receptions for 57 yards.
Wilmington tallied 180 yards of total offense (59 rushing, 121 passing) led by tailback Jermaine Isaac who rushed for 43 yards on 18 carries. Quarterback Cam Marsh completed seven of 18 passes for 55 yards and two interceptions.
B-W will be in action next weekend and will host Muskingum on Shriners'/Youth Football Day at the George Finnie Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 2 beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Game Notes vs. Wilmington
The BALDWIN-WALLACE COLLEGE YELLOW JACKET football team travels to Wilmington, Ohio on Saturday, September 25, 2004 to play an Ohio Athletic Conference game against the Wilmington College Quakers at 1:30 p.m. at Williams Stadium.
RADIO -- B-W campus radio station WBWC, 88.3 FM, will carry the game live from Wilmington with the pre-game show starting at 1:00 p.m. Sports Director Dave Kich will call the play-by-play. WBWC broadcasts all home and away Yellow Jacket games. The live broadcast can also be heard live via the internet at www.bw.edu/athletics.

The Game -- The Baldwin-Wallace College football team will look to stretch its winning ways to three straight and improve to 3-0 overall when it travels to Wilmington for an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup against Wilmington College at William's Stadium on Saturday.
B-W has opened the season with consecutive wins against nonleague foe Allegheny (Pa.) College, 27-14, and OAC rival Ohio Northern University, 31-3. The Yellow Jackets are looking to have a 38th straight winning season.
Wilmington, under the direction of first-year Head Coach Phil Dorn, has opened the 2004 campaign with a 1-1 mark after losing to Mt. St. Joseph College, 21-10, and then beating OAC foe Muskingum College, 17-5.
The Baldwin-Wallace College versus Wilmington College Series -- The Yellow Jackets of Baldwin-Wallace College and the Quakers of Wilmington College have previously met five times dating back to the first meeting in 1922. The Yellow Jackets lead the series,3-2, and have won three straight games, including a 51-0 win a year ago in Berea. WC's last win came in 2000, in Wilmington, 20-13.
Last Year: B-W --51, Wilmington --0 in Berea, Ohio on October 18, 2003 --A year ago, the Yellow Jackets defeated the Quakers, 51-0, in Berea at The George Finnie Stadium. B-W led 14-0 after the first quarter, 31-0 at halftime and 45-0 at the end of the third stanza. Offensively, B-W was led by graduated All-OAC quarterback Dan Larlham who ran for 110 yards and one touchdown and also threw for 175 yards by completing 12 of 18 passes, including two for TD. Current senior two-time Academic All-OAC wide reciever Dave Ehrman (Strongsville) led B-W with two catches for 56 yards and one TD. On defense, B-W was led by current junior Justin Princehorn (Massillon) with seven tackles. For Wilmington, graduated QB Ricky Shifko who completed 15 of 28 passes for 140 yards. Graduated RB Jake Jacobs ran for a team-high 74 yards and also caught five passes for 33 yards. Current senior Deon Short had a team-high seven catches for 101 yards.
Scouting the Baldwin-Wallace College Yellow Jackets - B-W returns 30 letterman and 10 starters in 2004. On defense, Justin Princehorn and Joe George (Massillon/ Perry) are the leaders. The defensive line is B-W's strength despite the loss of All-American end Nate Mitchell (13 sacks and 26 tackles for loss in 2003). Back are senior All-OAC end Ryan Lewis (Holland/ Springfield) and three-year varsity contributor Rick Schontz (Butler, Pa.). Overall, nine of the top 11 linemen are back. In the secondary, look for senior Academic All-OACcornerback Justin Andes (Canal Fulton/ Canton Central Catholic) and senior safety and co-captain Mike Scarcella (Strongsville/ Parma Padua) to lead the way.
The receiving corps is the strength of the offense. Led Dave Ehrman, a four-year starter at WR, and All-American tight end Nate Wilder (Youngstown/ Cardinal Mooney), B-W has a strong passing attack with a number of competent receivers. Joining Ehrman as returning WRs are senior Gary Kopchak (Brook Park/ Midpark), junior David Peterson (Cuyahoga Falls/ Walsh Jesuit) and sophomore Tom Murphy (Richfield Revere). On the offensive line, B-W returns two starters as well as a number of players who contributed a year ago. Leading the way will be senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC pick Tom Kovacevich (Strongsville). Senior tackle Josh Jameyson (Wellington) is the other returning starter and is a co-captain. Junior Mike DiAngelo (Steubenville) starts at QB and sophomore Brandon Hedges (Oregon/ Clay) is the featured runner.
Scouting the Wilmington College Quakers -- Wilmington returns 25 lettermen and 14 starters from its team of a year ago that finished 2-8 overall and the Quakers have a new head coach in the person of Phil Dorn. The offense is freshmen-oriented with QB Cam Marsh, RB Jermaine Isaac and wide receiver Marque Jones. Back as key skills player are athletic WRs Deon Short and Damian Ivory. Ivory played some QB last fall. The defensive is led by All-American end Brandon Tisdale, tackle Mark Lane, linebackers Cory Novell and Jeff Jenkins and defensive back Chad Otte. In addition, punter Drew Springer and kicker Jon Bednarik are back.
B-W's LAST GAME: On Sept. 18, Baldwin-Wallace -- 31, Ohio Northern -- 3 in Berea -- The Yellow Jackets improved to 2-0 with an impressive 31-3 Community Day victory against the Ohio Northern University Polar Bears before 5,555 fans at Finnie Stadium. It was the OAC opener for both schools. B-W led 10-0 after one quarter, 17-3 at halftime and at the end of the third stanza. Offensively, Brandon Hedges had his second straight strong performance with a career-high 158 rushing yards with a TD. He also caught a team-high four passes for 13 yards. Mike DiAngelo played well and completed 14 of 21 passes for 149 yards, including a seven-yard TD throw to Nate Wilder. Dave Ehrman had three receptions for a team-high 69 yards. Ehrman's first catch versus ONU extended his streak of consecutive games with a grab at 34.
Defensive, B-W limited ONU to 191 total yards of offense, including just 40 rushing yards in 25 attempts. B-W also forced three turnovers and had three QB sacks.
On special teams, freshman punter Kevin Soflkanics (Middleburg Heights/ Midpark) averaged 45.3 yards per punt in seven attempts, and senior placekicker Aaron Redd (Swanton) connected on all four PAT kicks and had a 29-yard field goal.
WILMINGTON'S LAST GAME: On Sept. 18, Wilmington -- 17, Muskingum -- 5-- in New Concord-- The Quakers improved to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the OAC with a 17-5 triumph against host Muskingum College at McConagha Stadium in New Concord. Offensively, Wilmington outgained Muskingumn, 248-87, and was led on the ground by Jermaine Isaac with 55 yardsd in 25 attempts, including a TD. He also caught five passes for 56 yards. Marque Jones caught four passes for 34 yards and ran a reverse for 51 yards. QB Cam Marsh completed 17 of 26 passes for 157 yards but was intercepted twice. Deon Short caught four passes for 41 yards. Defensively, the Quakers held the Muskies to minus eight rushing yards in 26 attempts. The defense sacked Muskies QBs six times, forced a fumble and intercepted two passes.
B-W TWO-GAME STATISTICAL LEADERS -- After two games, Brandon Hedges tops the team with 314 rushing yards on 42 attempts (7.5 yards per carry) and four TD. Hedges is also B-W's leading receiver with seven catches for 44 yards. Mike DiAngelo is second in rushing with 65 yards on 17 attempts with two TD. Junior fullback Brian Pickens (Norwalk St. Paul) is third with 27 yards in five attempts.
In passing, DiAngelo has completed 31 of 50 passes for 62 percent with 319 yards and two TD with two interceptions. He has a 120.79 QB efficency rating.
The receiving corps are led by Dave Ehrman and Nate Wilder. Ehrham is second in receiving with five catches for 92 yards. Wilder has five grabs for 52 yards and two TD.
Defensively, Justin Andes tops the team with 12 tackles and five pass breakups. Justin Princehorn is second with 11 stops and both senior DB Matt Walker (New Middletown/ Springfield Local) and junior OLB Matt Martig (Beliot/ West Branch) are tied for third with 10 each.
On special teams, Kevin Soflkanics is averaging 42.8 yards per punt in 11 attempts with a long punt of 66 yards and three inside the opponent's 20-yard line. Aaron Redd is seven-of-eight in point-after-touchdown kicks and one-of-two in field goal attempts.
WILMINGTON TWO-GAME STAT LEADERS -- Offensively, Cam Marsh has completed 27 of 41 passes for 65.9 percent with 320 yards and one TD. He has been intercepted three times. Jermaine Isaac is the top rusher with 99 yards in 39 attempts with a TD. Marque Jones and Deon Short top the receiving corps with seven catches each. Jones has seven for 148 yards and a TD. Short has seven grabs for 52 yards. Isaac has six receptions for 62 yards. On defense, Cory Nevell tops all tacklers with 17. Brandon Tisdale and linebacker Marcus Hafner each had two QB sacks. Chad Otte has the most interceptions with a pair. In the kicking game, Jon Bednarik has connected on two-of-four FGs and all three PATs. Drew Springer is averaging 36.5 yards for 15 punts.
The Yellow Jacket Notebook
The Seasonal Winning Streak -- The Baldwin-Wallace College football team has a seasonal winning streak of 37 years and is seeking a 38th straight winning campaign in 2004. The streak is second longest in all of college football as well as NCAA Division III. B-W has not had a losing season since 1966. Linfield (Oregon) College has the nation's longest streak.
Ehrman Looks to Continue Toward Record Streak -- Senior WR Dave Ehrman has caught a pass in every game of his collegiate career -- 34 games. Ehrman needs to catch a pass in two more games to break the mark by former All-American Lance Yandell of catching at least one pass in 35 consecutive games.
Snell Reaches 20 Wins -- Yellow Jacket Head Coach John Snell has reached the 20-victory plateau with a 20-4 record and an .818 winning percentage.
B-W Sponsors Youth Football Day on October 2-- Baldwin-Wallace College will sponsor its annual Youth Football Day/ "Take a Kid to the Game" promotion on Saturday, October 2 when it hosts Muskingum at 1:30 p.m.
A day-long program is scheduled and begins at 8:30 a.m. at Finnie Stadium. If you just want to "Take a Kid to the Game" then enter through the side gate and find a general admission seat of your choice. One free adult ticket for each "Kid" who comes to the game.

Regular Season Finale Will Be Televised -- B-W's regular season finale at John Carroll University on Saturday, November 13 in University heights (a 1:30 p.m. kickoff) will be televised throughout Northeast Ohio and into both Central Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. The game will be produced by Classic Teleproductions of Twinsburg, Ohio and aired on PBS channels 45 and 49 with the potential of reaching 2.4 million homes.
The Yellow Jackets Are Going to Spain in May -- Members of this year's Yellow Jacket football team will travel to Spain next May (2005) to travel to country for 10 days, including playing a game against a club team. More details on the trip will follow during this season.
