Baldwin-Wallace College Loses to Marietta College, 26-0, in Marietta on Saturday;

Yellow Jackets Have Lost Three Straight

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College football team was shut out by Marietta College, 26-0, today (November 6) in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup at the Don Drumm Stadium in Marietta and has now lost its last three consecutive games.

With the loss, B-W falls to 6-3 overall and 5-3 in the OAC while Marietta improves to 6-3 overall and 5-3 in the OAC. The shutout was the first for the Yellow Jackets since last year's Mount Union game in which the Purple Raiders defeated B-W 22-0 in Alliance.

The story of the first half was missed opportunities by both teams. Marietta threatened in the first quarter with the ball on the B-W three-yard line, but an interception by junior defensive end Ryan Lewis (Castalia/ Margaretta) ended the Pioneer scoring opportunity keeping the game scoreless.

After a scoreless first quarter, Marietta placekicker Bobby Lemasters gave the Pioneers a 3-0 lead with a 23-yard field goal with 11:22 left in the half. B-W would later set up for a chance to tie the game at 3-3 with a potential 20-yard field goal, but a failed fake field goal attempt kept the game at 3-0 heading into the break.

In the third quarter, the Yellow Jackets again had a valuable scoring chance, this time at the Marietta one-yard line, but B-W could not convert and would have to settle for another field goal attempt. The Pioneer defense blocked the 20-yard attempt and Marietta's J.J. Wheeler returned the ball 93-yards for a touchdown to extend the lead to 10-0. The blocked field goal sparked a 20 point unanswered streak by the Pioneers in a span of five plays.

Lemasters made his second field goal of the game highlighting a 13 play, 62-yard drive with 8:19 left in the fourth quarter en route to the 26-0 victory.

B-W accounted for 327 yards of total offense (172 rushing, 155 passing). Sophomore running back Brandon Hedges (Oregon/ Clay) rushed for a team-high 112 yards on 25 carries. Sophomore quarterback Mike DiAngelo (Steubenville/ Senior) completed eight of 14 passes for 66 yards. Senior tight end Nate Wilder (Youngstown/Cardinal Mooney) had a team-high three receptions for 37 yards and senior wideout Gary Kopchak (Brookpark/ Midpark), junior David Peterson (Stow/ Walsh Jesuit) and junior fullback Bryan Pickens (New London/ Norwalk St. Paul) each added two receptions.

Marietta tallied 263 yards of total offense (146 rushing, 117 passing) led by tailback Steven Wagner who rushed for 145 yards on 24 carries including a 40-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Jason Vrable completed eight of 12 passes for 117 yards and two interceptions.
