Derron Hamilton Notes: Baldwin-Wallace College defensive end Derron Hamilton had his best season as a collegian as a senior when he became of the best rusher in NCAA Division III football. In his third season with the Yellow Jacket varsity, Derron blossomed into a force at end and was named as a first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection. As a freshman and sophomore, Derron played DE on the junior varsity team and then began splitting time with the varsity as a sophomore. He emerged as a junior when he "unofficially" recorded six quarterback sacks in a scrimmage against Case Western Reserve University. At that point forward, Derron was utilized as a pass-rushing DE. As a senior, Derron started. Some of his best performances include a career-high 3.5 QB sack performance on Shriners' Day versus Capital University in Berea on September 24. For his efforts, Derron was named as the B-W Shriners' Player of the Game. A game later, Derron was named as the OAC Defensive Player of the Week for a career-high 11-tackle and 3.5-sack performance in a 17-7 win at Marietta College on October 1. Dereron finished the 2011 season with a career-high 39 tackles, including OAC-highs in tackles for loss (15) and QB sacks (11). He also recovered a pair of fumbles, one of which he returned for a touchdown but later nullified due to a penalty on the return. As a junior, he played in all 10 games, earned his first varsity letter, had 34 total tackles, including 22 solo stops, 5.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 QB sacks and two caused fumble. His best game was an eight-tackle performance against Marietta College in a 39-9 victory in Berea. He had a season-high 1.5 QB sacks in a 38-0 shutout of Wilmington College. Most Remembered: Derron will be most remembered for his laugh and infectious personality. |
