Seven Baldwin-Wallace College football players have been named to the 2003 Don Hansen's Football Gazette All-North Region team. To view the entire team, please click here.Senior running back Mark Anders (North Olmsted), tight end Nate Wilder (Youngstown Cardinal Mooney), senior defensive end Nate Mitchell (Butler, Pennsylvania. Butler), senior All-American safety Greg Koch (Olmsted Falls) and senior punter Rob Becker (Dover) were all named to the first-team. In addition, senior offensive guard Ian Formaz (Wadsworth) was tabbed to the second-team and senior quarterback Dan Larlham (Brimfield/ Walsh Jesuit) made the third-team. The first and second-team members now qualify for the national Football Gazette All-American ballot.
Anders owns virtually every B-W rushing, scoring and all-purpose yards records and is also a first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference pick for the second straight year. He topped the Yellow Jackets and the OAC with 1,392 rushing yards and a B-W single-season-record 20 TD. Anders also caught 27 passes for 263 yards and three more TD. His 23 TD and 138 points also lead the OAC and are B-W seasonal records. His 3,867 career all-purpose yards are also a B-W school-record.
Mitchell was fifth on the team in total tackles with 75 and led the OAC in both tackles for loss with 26 and quarterback sacks with a B-W single-season school-record 13 for 80 yards in losses. He has also batted down six passes, forced opposing QBs to hurry 21 others, forced one fumble and recovered another.
Koch is a first-team All-North Region pick for the second straight year. He earned Division III All-American honors both last year (by The Football Gazette and by Hewlett-Packard) and this year (by the American Football Coaches Association), topped the Yellow Jackets in tackles with a single-season school-record 109. He also tackled opponents 11 times for losses, including a QB sack, intercepted four passes and had 11 total pass breakups. Koch will continue his playing career next weekend when he travels to Cancun, Mexico to participate in the Aztec Bowl.
Wilder was the Jackets' second leading receiver with 20 catches for 294 yards and a team-high six TD. He was also a first-team All-OAC selection.
Becker averaged an OAC-leading 38.5 yards per punt and it is the second straight year that he has led the conference. He was a second-team All-North Region pick a year ago and earned first-team All-OAC honors this fall.
Formaz is a member of an offensive line that has helped B-W to average 41.5 points and 450.5 yards per game. He was also a first-team All-OAC selection.
Larlham is the most prolific quarterback in Yellow Jacket history, having accounted for school records of 101 TD and 8,910 yards of total offense. He passed for 6,922 yards and 64 TD and ran for B-W quarterback-records of 1,988 yards and 37 TD. He was a first-team All-OAC pick this year and a second-team All-OAC choice as a junior.
