The women's cross country team's streak of runner-up finishes ends as the women finish fourth at the Dickinson (Pa.) Invitational. The men's team finished sixth.
Both teams ran two races, the women a 4k and a 6k, and the men a 4k and an 8k. The scorers were comprised of the top three team runners from each race.
The women's top three finishers in the 4k were freshmen Kristen Balogh (Loveland), who finished 23rd in a time of 16:26, and Lindsay Brickner (Lisbon/Donald Anderson), who finished 27th (16:28) and junior Laura McClung (Avon Lake) who finished 31st (16:35). The women's scorers in the 6k were seniors Lisa Bartkiewicz (Berea) and Lindsay Bukovec (Willowick/Eastlake North) and sophomore Megan Via (Brookville). Bartkiewicz finished 11th in a time of 24:07, Bukovec finished 13th in a time of 24:16 and Via was 26th with a time of 24:49.
The men's scorers in the 4k were freshmen Sean Wallace (Lorain/Southview), Zach McCandlish (Lancaster) and Aaron Apathy (Parma/Padua). Wallace was fourth in a time of 12:59, McCandlish was 30th in a time of 13:45 and Apathy was 45th with a time of 14:03. The three scorers in the 8k were freshmen Ian Michalik (Sandusky/Perkins) and D.J. Hanigosky (North Royalton/St. Ignatius) and sophomore Chris Buhoveckey (Brunswick/Padua). Michalik recorded a time of 27:06 to finish fourth, Hanigosky's time of 27:46 was good enough for 15th and Buhoveckey's 28:25 put him 29th.
Both teams will run next Friday October 8 at the All Ohio Invitational, in Delaware, which begins at 1:00 p.m.
