BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's cross country team placed fifth out of nine schools and the men's team placed ninth out of nine schools at the Calvin (Mich.) College Invitational in Grand Rapdis, Mich.
In a stellar performance, all seven of the top runners and 12 out of 14 total runners on the women's side ran season-best times. Sophomore Ashley Scullion (Kentwood, Mich./ East Kentwood) led the team with a sixth place finish in a time of 18:46.0. Senior Megan Via (Brookville) finished in 21st place with a time of 19:37.5. Finishing closely together were junior Kristen Balogh (Loveland) and senior Kelly Staruch (Hinckley/ Medina Highland) in 27th and 30th places. Balogh finished with a time of 19:45.0 and Staruch finished with a time of 19:52.4. Freshman D'Arcy Hlavin (Berea) was the next to finish for B-W in 37th place with a time of 20:20.3. Junior Lindsay Brickner (Lisbon/ Donald Anderson) and senior Rihana Knotts (Middletown/ Madison) finished out the to seven with places of 45th and 53rd and times of 20:18.2 and 20:36.0, respectively.
Also showing a great performance, six of the top seven runners and nine out of 10 total runners on the men's side ran season-best times. Two sohpomores, Derek Hill and Nate Bowen (Fremont), led the way for the Yellow Jackets. Hill finished in 36th place with a time of 26:50.1 and Bown finished in 43rd place with a time of 27:13.9. Crossing the finishline next for B-W was senior John Townsend (Chardon) in 49th place with a time of 27:24.2. Placing back to back were freshman Justin Tuckosh (Brook Park/ Midpark) and junior Aaron Apathy (Parma/ Padua) in the 56th and 57th position. Tuckosh ran a time of 27:36.0 and Apathy ran a time of 27:39.3. Finishing out the top seven were freshman James Eberts (North Canton/ Hover) and senior Bobby Phillips (Akron/ Manchester). Eberts finished in 61st place with a time of 27:50.9 and Phillips finished in 68th place with a time of 28:20.8.
The cross country teams will travel to Athens, Ohio next weekend to compete in the Ohio University Invitational. The meet begins at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 23.
