BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's cross country team won its fourth meet title in five weeks of competition when they captured the Ohio Northern University Polar Bear Invitational Meet title today in Ada at the Hawthorne Hills Golf Club. The Yellow Jacket men were second as a team. In addition and individually, seniors Jessica Yextoris (Akron/ Medina Highland High School) and Brad Geletka (Kirtland H.S.) each won titles.
The B-W women were first of seven schools and had 22 points and had six of the top 10 runners in the meet. The Yellow Jacket women also kept their unbeaten streak against Division III competition alive and are now 29-0. Individually, Textoris was first of 86 runners and finished the 5,000 meter course in 22:42.04. It was the third meet individual title for Textoris this fall.
The B-W men had 59 points, 25 shy of first place Hope (Mich.) College. Geletka won his first individual title this fall as he covered the 8,000 meter course in 26:02.63. He was first of 65 men's competitors.
In addition to Textoris, senior Nicole Drouhard (Canfield/ Austintown Fitch H.S.) was third in 22:55.79. She was followed by senior Lynn Katanik (Parma Padua H.S.) in fifth place in 23:22.52, senior Tara Gruskiewicz (Williamsfield/ Pymatuning Valley H.S.) in sixth place in 23:28.96, junior Jen Southall (Willoughby South H.S.) in seventh place in 23:33.09 and junior Stacy Havaich (Austintown Fitch H.S.) in 10th place in 23:46.37.
In addition to Geletka, junior Bob Magyar (Lyndhurst Brush H.S.) was fifth individually in 26:22.76 and senior Mike Miklavcic (Euclid H.S.) was 12th in 26:50.13.
The Yellow Jacket cross country team will be back in action next Friday when they travel to Delaware, Ohio and Ohio Wesleyan University to compete at the 2002 All-Ohio Division III Championship Meet. The B-W women are the defending champions.
