BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin-Wallace College women's cross country team took first place and the men tied for first among Division III schools this afternoon (September 13) at the Mel Brodt Invitational held at Bowling Green University. The Yellow Jacket women scored 24 points and the men scored 35 tying with fellow Ohio Athletic Conference school Heidelberg College.
Leading the way for the women was senior All-OAC runner Jennifer Southall (Willoughby South) who ran to a 19th place finish with a time of 19:02. Also pacing the women were junior Lisa Bartkiewicz (Berea), who clocked in at 19:38 to finish 44th, freshman Megan Via (Brookville) who was 48th with a time of 19:45, freshman Rihana Knotts (Middletown/Madison) whose time of 19:52.01 was good enough for 53rd place overall, and senior Khara Sosko (Ellwood City, Pa./Riverside) who was 63rd with a time of 20:04.
For the second straight week the Yellow Jacket Men were led by freshman Chris Buhovecky (Brunswick/Padua), who ran a person collegiate best time of 26:56 to finish 25th overall.In addition to Buhovecky, leading the men was senior Jason Ream (Burton/Berkshire) with a time of 27:35 good for 45th place. Junior Josh Fetzer (Ashland/Senior) was third overall for the Jackets running a 27:59 to come home 53rd. Freshman Chris Smolinski (Parma/Padua) and senior Brian Adkins (Berea) rounded out the top five finishers for B-W. Smolinski finished 59th with a time of 28:10 and Adkins ran a 28:16 to finish 64th overall.
