Baldwin-Wallace College Senior Kim Chinn Named OAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
BEREA, OHIO — Baldwin-Wallace College senior NCAA Division III All-American Kim Chinn (Zanesville/ West Muskingum) is this week’s Ohio Athletic Conference Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. It marks the third time in her career that Chinn has earned an OAC weekly honor in cross country and fifth overall, including two in track.
Last Saturday, September 18, Chinn placed third individually of 195 women at the Calvin (Mich.) College Knight Invite and led the Yellow Jackets to a fourth place team finish. Chinn covered the five-kilometer course in 18:23.7, her best time in the 5K this season.
In addition this season, Chinn has placed in the top three individually at each of B-W’s four meets this season. She placed first of 32 runners at the season-opening meet at The College of Wooster on Sept. 1, placed second of 74 runners at the Case Western Reserve University Bill Sudeck Meet on Sept. 4 and was second of 238 runners at Ohio Wesleyan University Invitational on Sept. 11.
Last season, Chinn was one of the top two runners on the OAC-champion cross country team and placed fifth as an individual at the league championship meet. She also earned NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region accolades and helped to lead the team into the NCAA Div. III National Championship Meet, which B-W hosted. During the indoor track season, she won the OAC 1,000-meter run in a time of 3:03.11, also setting a Marietta College facility record and was second in the 1-mile run.
At the 2010 OAC Outdoor Championships, Chinn was named the OAC Women's Distance Runner of the Meet as she ran on the first place 4x800-meter relay team and won both the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 5,000-meter run. She provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III National Meet in the 1,500-meter run and 3,000-meter steeplechase. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Chinn set a school-record and was national runner-up in a time of 10:30.53, earning All-America honors. Chinn’s time broke the school record by eight seconds and bettered her personal best by 15 seconds. She became the third woman in B-W history to earn All-America honors in the steeplechase.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Friday, October 1 when they travel to Cedarville for the All-Ohio Cross Country Championships.
