The Baldwin Wallace University Baseball Team Beats Walsh University, 16-6, in North Canton

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated Walsh University, 16-6, today (March 26) in North Canton. With its victory, the Yellow Jackets are 9-4 overall and next play at Malone College in Canton on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Walsh answered with a run of its own to tie the game at 1-1 after one inning of play. BW scored four runs in the second and then broke the game open with a seven-run third inning to take a commanding 12-3 lead. The Yellow Jackets added a pair of runs in the top of the fifth and in the top of the ninth innings. Walsh scored a run in each of the last three innings en route to the 16-6 victory.

At the plate, BW outhit Walsh 17-10 and was led by senior outfielder Dan Melito (Massillon/ Washington) who finished two-of-three with a homerun, four runs batted in and scored two runs. Melito also hit his 37th career double which broke the school record for doubles in a career previously held by a trio of BW players, Phil Stringer (1987-90), Joel Nichols (1993-96) and Pat Shannon (2000-03). Senior catcher/pitcher Bob Storesina (Canton/ GlenOak) was a perfect three-of-three with two runs scored and two RBI. Senior outfielder Mike Farrell (Wickliffe) finished three-of-six with one run scored and a RBI.

On the mound, junior pitcher Clayton Kynkor (Auburn Township/ Kenston) got his fourth win of the season and is now a perfect 4-0 overall for the season. Kynkor pitched five innings and allowed four hits, three earned runs, two walks and struck out three batters. Freshman Brandon Fredericks (Copley/ Richmond Revere) got the save pitching four innings allowing six hits, three earned runs, a walk and had three strikeouts.
