The Baldwin Wallace University Baseball Team Loses to Thiel (Pa.) College, 10-1, in

Final Game of Spring Trip to Ft. Myers, Florida

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team, 6-3 overall, lost to Thiel (Pa.) College, 11-1 today (March 11) in a single nine-inning game on the final day of the Yellow Jackets annual spring break trip to the Gene Cusic Classic in Ft. Myers, Florida.

Thiel took control of the game early scoring four runs in the top of the second inning and led 6-1 after four innings of play. The Tomcats added two more runs in the seventh and ninth innings en route to the 10-1 final.

On the mound for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore pitcher Steve Miller (Streetsboro/ Cuyahoga Valley Christian) was given the loss and is 0-1 for the season. He pitched two and one-third innings allowing five runs, all earned, on six hits and struck out two batters. Sophomore Kevin Shenker (Twinsburg) also saw action, pitching in three and two-thirds ininngs allowing one run on three hits with a walk and one strikeout. Freshman Jim Jaskowak (Grove City, Pa.) rounded out the BW pitching going three innings and gave up six hits, four earned runs, a walk and struck out one batter.

At the plate, BW was outhit 15-9. The Yellow Jackets were led by senior outfielder Matt Green (Elyria/ Senior) and sophomore outfielder Shaun Slater (Wooster/ Norwayne) who each connected on two-of-four attempts. Slater also was credited with a run batted in. Five other BW hitters each recorded a hit despite the loss.

The Yellow Jackets return home to Berea and will play their first northern game on Saturday, Mar. 18 when they travel to Urbana University for a non-conference doubleheader against the Blue Knights beginning at 1:00 p.m.
