The Baldwin Wallace University Baseball Team Beats Olivet (Mich.) College, 12-3,

on Spring Trip to Ft. Myers, Florida

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team improved its record to 4-2 overall today (March 9) with a 12-3 victory against Olivet College of Michigan on the fifth day of the Yellow Jackets annual spring break trip to the Gene Cusic Classic in Ft. Myers, Florida.

The Yellow Jackets led 1-0 after one inning, 5-1 after two innings and 11-1 after three en route to their fourth triumph of the season.

On the mound, junior righthanded pitcher Clayton Kynkor (Auburn Township/ Chagrin Falls Kenston) improved to 2-0 overall and had his second straight solid outing. Kynkor pitched seven strong innings as he allowed just four hits and one earned run and struck out eight batters and walked just one. Senior Nick Quarando (Amherst/ Marion Steele) threw the eighth inning and junior "stopper" Bob Storesina (Canton/ GlenOak) tossed a scoreless ninth inning.

At the plate, BW banged out 12 base hits and was led by the trio of senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference rightfielder Dan Melito (Massillon/ Washington), senior Academic All-OAC second baseman Kevin Brown (Cuyahoga Falls) and Storesina. Melito was three-of-five at the plate with a double, two runs scored and four runs batted-in. Melito now has a team-leading 10 RBI in BW's first six games.  Brown had two base hits in three at-bats and scored a pair of runs to continue his torrid hitting and is now a team-leading 10-of-21 for a .476 batting average. Storesina also blasted a three-run homer in addition to pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action tomorrow (Friday, March 10) when they play Eastern Nazarene (Mass.) College in a doubleheader with the first game beginning at 10:00 a.m.
