The Baldwin Wallace University Baseball Team Beats Notre Dame College, 12-5, in

its Home Opener in Berea

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated Notre Dame College, 12-5, today (March 22) in its home opener at Heritage Field in Berea. The game was called after the top of the seventh inning due to darkness. With its victory, the Yellow Jackets are 8-4 overall and next play at Walsh University in Canton on Friday at 3:00 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning highlighted by a two-run homerun by senior outfielder Dan Melito (Massillon/ Washington). The homerun was his second of the year. BW added one run in the second and five in the bottom of the third inning to lead 8-1. The Yellow Jackets would continue to score with a run in the fourth and added three more runs in the fifth inning to take a commanding 12-1 lead. Notre Dame scored four runs in the top of the seventh to cut the lead to 12-5, but would not be able to manage anymore runs as the game was called to darkness.

At the plate, senior second baseman Kevin Brown (Cuyahoga Falls) led the way going two-of-two with three runs scored and four runs batted in. Senior infielder Derek Skapes (North Olmsted) also finished two-of-three with two runs scored. Melito's only hit was his homerun in two attempts and forced three walks. Seven other BW players each recorded one hit in the win.

On the mound, junior Brian Pille (Lorain/ Catholic) got his first win of the season pitching six innings allowing one run on seven hits with one walk and struck out seven batters.
