The Baldwin Wallace University Baseball Team Defeats Cleveland

Cross-Town Rival Case, 16-6, in University Circle

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated nonconference and Greater Cleveland cross-town rival Case, 16-6, today (April 13) in University Circle. The win was BW's second straight overall and second straight this year against Case.

With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 15-12 overall and next play on Saturday, April 15 when they travel to Marietta, Ohio to play the nationally-ranked Marietta College Pioneers in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at Pioneer Park at 1:00 p.m. Fans can listen to both games locally via www.mariettaonline.com. With their loss today, the Spartans fall to 7-13-1 overall.

The Yellow Jackets scored two runs in first inning off of a two-run homerun to rightfield by senior outfielder/designated hitter Mike Farrell (Wickliffe) and led 4-0 after three innings of play. BW broke the game open scoring 10 runs in the top of the fourth and added another run in the fifth to lead 15-0. Case ended a possible shutout scoring two runs in the bottom of the inning on a two-run double. The Spartens added two more runs in the seventh to cut the lead to 15-4. BW extended its lead to 16-4 with a RBI single by freshman first baseman Riley Kreisher (Ashtabula/ Edgewood) allowing freshman Cody Kidd (Wellington) to score his fourth run of the day. Case would score two runs to end the game in the ninth en route to the 16-6 final.

At the plate, senior second baseman Kevin Brown (Cuyahoga Falls) led the way with a perfect three-for-three performance including three runs scored and three RBI. Kidd finished three-of-six with four runs scored. Senior first baseman Matt Wilson (Canton/ Jackson) went two-of-three with a run scored and a RBI. Junior third baseman/pitcher Nick Quarando (Amherst/ Marion Steele) connected on two-of-three attempts with three RBI. Sophomore outfielder Shaun Slater (Wooster/ Norwayne) rounded out the top BW performances at the plate going two-of-four including two runs scored and two RBI. Four other Yellow Jackets each recorded a hit.

On the mound, freshman pitcher Brandon Fredericks (Copley/ Richfield Revere) was credited with the win and is now 1-1 for the season. He pitched three innings and allowed no runs on two hits with no walks and no strikeouts.

Following their tip to Marietta, the Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Tuesday (April 18) when they host OAC rival Heidelberg College in an OAC twinbill at Heritage Field at 1:00 p.m. Also next Saturday (April 22), BW travels to Columbus to play OAC foe Capital University in a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
