The BW Baseball Team Loses at Lake Erie, 7-3

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team lost a nonleague game today (April 9) at Lake Erie College, 7-3, in Painesville.

With its loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 13-10 overall.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with two runs in the top of the first inning before Lake Erie took control of the game. The Storm scored twice in the bottom of the first, three more times in the third and another in the fourth to take a commanding 6-1 lead. A BW run in the sixth made it as close as 6-3 before Lake Erie added an insurance run in the seventh for its final tally.

Despite the loss, senior first baseman Matt Wilson (Canton/ South) was three-of-five at the plate with two doubles, two runs scored and two runs batted-in. In addition, senior centerfielder Matt Green (Elyria/ Senior) was two-of-four at the plate. On the mound, sophomore Kevin Shenker (Twinsburg) started and took the loss and dropped to 1-2 overall. He was followed on the mound by freshman Brandon Fredericks (Copley/ Richfield Revere), in the fourth inning, freshman Jim Jaskowak (Grove City, Pa./ Grove City) in the seventh and junior Bob Storesina (Canton/ GlenOak) in the eighth.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action next week when they play six games. BW will travel to University Heights on Tuesday (April 11) for an OAC doubleheader against OAC and Greater Cleveland rival John Carroll University at 1:00 p.m., then host traditional rival Hiram College for a single game on Wednesday (April 12) at 3:30 p.m., then travel to University Circle on Thursday (April 13) for a single game at Case at 3:30 p.m. and end the week by traveling to Marietta for an OAC twinbill against Marietta College on Saturday (April 15) at 1:00 p.m.
