BW Loses Twice to Otterbein, 10-1 and 6-1
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jacket baseball team lost an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader today at Otterbein College, 10-1 and 6-1, in Westerville. With its two losses, BW is now 17-12 overall and 6-4 in the OAC. With its two wins, Otterbein is 13-11 overall and 7-5 in the OAC.
In the opener, Otterbein sophomore pitcher Robert Benjamin held the Yellow Jackets to five hits and one run in a 10-1 victory. The lone bright spot for BW was senior first-team All-OAC first baseman Pat Shannon (Madison, Conn./ Daniel Hand) who had two base hits.
In the nightcap, Jason Durdurand was just as sharp as Benjamin and held the Yellow Jackets to seven hits and a first inning run enroute to leading the Cardinals in the sweep. Despite the loss, freshman second baseman Dan Melito (Massillon Washington) and junior third baseman Ryan Petraitis (Clinton Manchester) each had a pair of base hits. Shannon drove in the lone Yellow Jacket run with a sacrifice fly and was one-of-one.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Tuesday at Oberlin College for a single game at 3:30 p.m. Then the Yellow Jackets will host first place Heidelberg College in an OAC twinbill on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. and end the week by hosting fourth place Wilmington College on Saturday in a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
