Baldwin Wallace Defeats Non-Conference Rival Malone College, 8-2, in Canton

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated non-conference opponent Malone College, this afternoon (March 27th), 8-2, in Canton.  With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 8-6 on the season and will open up Ohio Athletic Conference play on Saturday, March 29th in a doubleheader against Muskingum College in Berea, starting at 1:00 p.m.  With the loss, Malone drops to 14-6 this season.

Senior right-hander Ryan Petrusky (Cuyahoga Falls) started for the Jackets and pitch three innings giving up two runs on four hits and striking out two.  The win for Petrusky gives him a 2-2 record on the season.  Sophomore Bob Glavan (Mentor) relieved Petrusky and pitched the fourth and fifth innings allowing only one hit.  Sophomore Mike Turchan (Mayfield Heights) pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh innings to record his second save.

 The Yellow Jacket offense was led by senior All-OAC first baseman Pat Shannon (Madison, Connecticut/Daniel Hand High School) who hit his third home run of the season and drove in three runs giving him a team-high 16 this year.  Senior All-OAC shortstop Jim Leffler (Chagrin Falls) added three hits and scored a run.  Senior outfielder Brian Keller (Vermilion) and junior third baseman Ryan Petraitis (Akron/Manchester) both had two hits.  Keller also drove in two runs, scored two runs and had a double.

Following their doubleheader against Muskingum, the Yellow Jackets will play two non-conference games on the road.  On Tuesday, April 1st, they will travel to University Circle to play Case Western Reserve University, and then will travel to North Canton to play Walsh University on Thursday, April 3rd.  Both games will start at 3:30 p.m.
