Baldwin Wallace Baseball Loses to Hiram, 7-2, in Hiram
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team was defeated this afternoon (May 1st) by non-conference rival Hiram College, 7-2, at Fishel Field in Hiram. The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 22-15 on the season. Hiram improves to 21-16 on the year. *NOTE: The game was originally scheduled to be nine innings but was called in the bottom of the seventh due to rain and lightning.
Sophomore right-hander Bob Glavan (Mentor) started for the Jackets and pitched three innings allowing three earned runs on six hits and striking out four . Freshman righthander Chris Anderson (Bellefontaine) replaced Glavan and pitched two-thirds of an inning giving up four runs (all earned) on two hits before being relieved by junior Cal Snyder (East Canton). Snyder pitched the remaining two and one-third innings allowing no hits and striking out two.Leading the Yellow Jackets at the plate today was senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference outfielder Brian Keller (Vermilion) who went two for four. Sophomore second baseman Mike Turchan (Mayfield Heights), and two time All-OAC and All-Mideast Region first baseman Pat Shannon (Madison, Connecticut) had the lone runs batted in for the Jackets. Shannon's RBI hit was his team-leading 18th double, breaking the single season record of former outfielder Brian Johnson.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Saturday, May 3rd when they travel to Bexley, Ohio to play OAC rival Capital University in a key OAC doubleheader starting at 1:00.
