Baldwin Wallace University Baseball Team Beats CWRU, 12-8

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jacket baseball team defeated Cleveland cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University, 12-8, today at Heritage Field in Berea. With the victory, the Yellow Jackets are now 17-10 overall and own a four-game winning streak. With its loss, CWRU is 4-18 overall.

After CWRU tallied three times in the top of the first inning, BW began to chip away at the lead. The Yellow Jackets scored one run in the first, another in the second and four more in the third to take a 6-5 lead. BW scored another run in the fourth, three in the fifth and a pair in the sixth to take a commanding 12-7 lead into the final three innings.

On the mound, freshman righthander Chris Anderson (Bellefontaine) pitched the first four innings and was followed by junior righty Cal Snyder (East Canton), freshman lefthander Aaron Krieger (Bellefontaine), senior righty Dave Hull (Strongsville) and sophomore right Bob Glavan (Mentor). Snyder earned his first victory with an inning and a third of scoreless relief. Both Hull and Glavan each also tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

The Yellow Jacket hitting attack was led by senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference right fielder Brian Keller (Vermilion) who had four hits for the second time in the last three games and is 11 of 13 in three games this week. In addition, senior All-OAC and Mideast Region first baseman Pat Shannon (Madison, Conn./ Daniel Hand), sophomore second baseman Mike Turchan (Mayfield) and junior third baseman Ryan Petraitis (Clinton/ Manchester) each had three hits. Freshman designated hitter Dan Melito (Massillon Washington) had a pair of hits.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Westerville and will play OAC rival Otterbein in a key OAC midseason doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. Currently, BW is in third place in the OAC with a 6-2 league mark. Heidelberg is first at 7-1 and Marietta second with an 8-2 OAC slate.
