BW Sweeps Capital, 3-0, and 10-4; Clinch OAC Playoff Berth

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team swept a doubleheader from Ohio Athletic Conference rival Capital University, 3-0, and 10-4, this afternoon (May 3rd) in Berea. With the wins, the Jackets are now 24-15 and 12-6 in the OAC and clinch a berth in next week's OAC playoffs.

In the first game this afternoon, senior righthander Ryan Petrusky (Cuyahoga Falls) pitched five and two-thirds innings allowing seven hits and striking out three.  The win was Petrusky's team-leading seventh on the season.  Junior lefty Dale Koler (Brunswick) pitched the remaining one and two-thirds innings allowing no hits and striking out two to pick up his second save of the season.

The BW offense was led by senior two-time All-OAC and All-Mideast region shortstop Jim Leffler (Chagrin Falls) who went two for four with a double.  Sophomore catcher Adam Pajakowski (South Bend, Indiana) also had two hits and scored a run.  Senior Academic All-OAC outfielder Brian Keller (Vermilion), senior designated hitter Jason Elias (Warren), and sophomore second baseman Mike Turchan (Mayfield Heights) all drove in runs for the Jackets.

In the nightcap, BW tallied seven runs in the top of the seventh on only three hits to break a 3-3 tie.  Turchan started for the Jackets going five and two-thirds innings allowing three runs on nine hits and striking out three.  Koler then relieved Turchan and retired one batter to get his fifth win of the season.  Sophomore lefty Aaron Krieger (Bellefontaine) pitched the seventh inning gave up one run on two hits.

At the plate, the Jackets were again led by Leffler who went two for four with his second double of the day, an RBI, and a run scored. Senior two-time All-OAC and All-Mideast Region first baseman Pat Shannon (Madison, Connecticut/Daniel Hand) hit a two-run home run in the first to give him a team-leading nine on the season.  Junior third baseman Ryan Petraitis (Akron/Manchester), and sophomore outfielder Nick Slater (Wooster/Norwayne) both had two hits for the Jackets.  Petraitis also drove in three runs.

The Jackets will more then likely be the three seed and play second-seeded Marietta College in next week's OAC Playoffs at Heidelberg College.  BW split with Marietta earlier this year losing 4-2, and winning 8-4.
