BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College baseball team was defeated by Cleveland Cross-Town and non-conference rival Case Western Reserve University, this afternoon (April 1st), 7-5, in University Circle. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 10-7 on the season and have their three game winning streak snapped. Case Western improves to 4-13 on the year.
Sophomore right-hander Mike Turchan (Mayfield Heights) started for the Jackets and pitched four innings giving up five runs (two earned) on four hits and striking out four. The Jackets committed five errors today to hurt their chances for victory. The loss drops Turchan's record to 1-2 on the year. Senior Dave Hull (Strongsville) pitched the fifth and sixth innings in relief giving up one unearned run. Sophomore Aaron Krieger (Bellefontaine) and junior Cal Snyder (East Canton) pitched the remaining two innings.
Leading the Yellow Jackets at the plate today was senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and All-Region first baseman Pat Shannon (Madison, Conn./ Daniel Hand) who went four for four on the day with three doubles, giving him a team-high 10 this season, and two runs scored. Senior left fielder John Holko (Wadsworth) had two hits including a two run home run. Senior first baseman/designated hitter Jason Elias (Warren Harding) also added two hits for the Jackets. Both Holko and Elias had two RBI on the day as well.
The Yellow Jackets will next be in action on Thursday, April 3rd when they travel to Canton to play a non-conference game with Walsh University. On Saturday, April 5th, the Yellow Jackets will host OAC rival Mount Union in a doubleheader at Heritage Field in Berea.
