Baldwin Wallace Baseball Team Defeats No. 2-Ranked The College of Wooster, 7-3

BEREA, OHIO The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated No. 2-ranked The College of Wooster today (Thursday, March 27, 2008), 7-3, at Art Murray Field in Wooster, Ohio.
 
The win improves the Yellow Jackets record to 8-6 overall (1-1 Ohio Athletic Conference).  Wooster falls to 17-2.
 
BW struck first as the Yellow Jackets scored twice in the top of the second inning and added another run in the top of the third.  Wooster did not get on the board until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Fighting Scots scored their first run.  BW scored twice more in the top of the sixth and added an insurance run in each of the eighth and ninth innings.  Wooster  plated two runs in the bottom of the eighth, but the rally was not enough to overtake the Jackets.
 
On the mound, sophomore lefthander Scott Luthman (Celina) started and recorded his first win of the season.  He pitched eight innings and gave up just the three earned runs on eight hits and struck out five Wooster batters as he improved to 1-1.  Sophomore reliever Brian Boveington (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) closed the game by working the ninth inning and struck outs two batters.
 
At the plate, BW was led by senior second baseman Nate Luken (Dayton/ Chaminade-Julienne) who tallied three hits in five tries and scored two runs.  Thunder struck for junior catcher Matt Bolte (Jupiter, Fla./ William T. Dwyer) as hit hit his first homerun of the season and reached base in all five of his plate appearances.  He was two-for-two during the game with three walks, one run-batted-in, and one run scored.  Junior All-OAC centerfielder Cody Kidd (Wellington) and senior shortstop Nick Radca (Amherst/ Marion Steele) also had multi-hit games.  Junior All-OAC first baseman Riley Kreisher (Ashtabula/ Edgewood) hit his third double of the season and also added a run-batted-in.
 
The Yellow Jackets will be in action next as they face OAC- and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University on Saturday, March 29 in an OAC doubleheader in University Heights.  The first game begins at 1:00 p.m.
