BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin-Wallace College baseball team swept
an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against rival Otterbein
College today (Wednesday, April 10, 2008) at Heritage Field in
Berea. B-W won the first game, 1-0, and the nightcap, 7-2
With its sweep, the Yellow Jackets 12-10-1 overall and 4-4 in the
OAC. With its losses, Otterbein dropped to 10-9 overall and 2-4 in
the OAC.
In the first game, B-W scored the only run it needed in the bottom
of the fifth inning when senior leftfielder Shaun Slater (Wooster/
Norwayne) reached on a two-base error and scored on a single
by senior designated hitter Kevin Shenker (Twinsburg).
On the mound, Yellow Jacket junior righthander Jim Jaskowak (Grove
City, Pa./ Grove City) was dominant as he allowed just four base
hits to the visiting Cardinals, struck out one and allowed two
bases-on-balls to improve to 4-0 overall.
In the second game, Otterbein gained a 1-0 lead in the top of the
first inning before B-W tied the game at 1-1 with a run of its own
in the bottom of the fifth inning. Otterbein regained the lead at
2-1 with a run in the top of the sixth. B-W then tied the game and
broke it open with a six-run bottom of the eighth. The game-winning
hit was an infield single by freshman pinch hitter Chris Nealon
(Avon Lake).
At the plate, B-W banged out 14 base hits, including three by
junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC centerfielder Cody Kidd
(Wellington) and two each by senior shortstop Nick Radca (Amherst/
Marion Steele), junior third baseman Jake Gross (West Farmington/
Warren Champion) and Shenker.
On the mound, junior Brandon Fredericks (Copley/ Richfield Revere)
earned his second win of the season as he scattered nine Cardinal
hits in going the distance to improve to 2-2 overall. He struck out
six and walked just one.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, April 12 when
they travel to Columbus to play Capital University in an OAC
doubleheader at Clausen Field at 1:00 p.m.
