Baldwin Wallace University Baseball Team loses at Malone College, 14-6, in Canton
BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team lost to non-league foe Malone College, 14-6, today (Thursday, April 17, 2008) at Thurman Munson Stadium in Canton.
With its loss, the Yellow Jackets are now 15-12-1 overall. With its win, Malone is now 27-9 overall. The two teams also will meet for a single game in Berea on April 29 at 2:00 p.m.
The Pioneers took an early 3-0 lead with three runs in thebottom of the first inning. After the Yellow Jackets scored a pair of runs in the top of the second to close to within 3-2, Malone scored six times in the bottom of the frame to take a commanding, 9-2 advantage. BW rallied with three runs in the top of the fifth to close the gap to 9-5. Undaunted, the Pioneers added two of their own in the bottom of the frame to increase the lead to 11-5. After BW scored its final run in the seventh, Malone ended its scoring with three tallies in the eighth.
At the plate for the Yellow Jackets, senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC centerfielder Cody Kidd (Wellington), senior Academic All-OAC second baseman Nate Luken (Dayton/ Chaminade Julienne) and senior leftfielder Shaun Slater (Wooster/ Norwayne) each had a pair of hits to lead the offense. Both Luken and Slater each had a run batted-in.
On the mound for BW, sophomore Jim Palko (Euclid) started and took the loss to fall to 3-1 overall. He was followed on the mound by freshman Chris Nealon (Avon Lake) and then senior Kevin Shenker (Twinsburg).
