Baldwin Wallace University Baseball Team Defeats Case Western Reserve, 8-2
BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University, 8-2, today (Tuesday, April 22, 2008) at Nobby’s Ballpark in Cleveland.
This was the second game of a two-game set versus the Spartans this season. The first game ended in a 6-6 tie in Berea on April 3.
With its win, the Yellow Jackets move to 16-14-1 overall. The defeat drops Case to 10-26-1.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top first inning, and tacked on two more in the second for a 4-0 advantage. Case would plate one in the second and another in the fifth to close to within 4-2, but that would close out its scoring. BW would add three runs in the sixth and one more insurance run in the ninth to make the final score 8-2.
At the plate, junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference first baseman Riley Kreisher (Conneaut/ Ashtabula Edgewood) had a banner day with two hits, including his first home run on the campaign, three runs batted-in and three runs scored. Senior designated hitter Kevin Shenker (Twinsburg) added threehits and an RBI, sophomore All-OAC and Academic All-OAC centerfielder Cody Kidd (Wellington) had with two hits and three runs scored, and sophomore shortstop Jim Martin (Euclid) and senior rightfielder Mike Brisky (Berea) each had two hits.
On the mound, junior righthander Jim Jaskowak (Grove City, Pa./ Grove City) started and threw the first three innings but was not involved in the decision. He allowed four base hits and one run (earned), struck out two Case batters and walked one. He was followed on the mound by sophomore righty Jim Palko (Euclid) who pitched the final six innings to earn the win and improve to 4-1 overall. Palko allowed two hits and one run (earned), struck out three and walked three.
BW hosts traditional rival Oberlin College in a single game at Heritage Field on Thursday, April 24 at 4:00 p.m. and closes out the week by hosting OAC arch-rival Marietta College in an OAC doubleheader on Saturday, April 26 at Heritage Field in Berea at 1:00 p.m. The Marietta twinbill also is Alumni Baseball Day at BW.
