COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Baldwin-Wallace College baseball team swept an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against rival Capital University today (Monday, April 14, 2008) at Clowson Field in Columbus. B-W won the first game, 5-3, and the nightcap, 5-4 in 10 innings
With its sweep, the Yellow Jackets 14-10-1 overall and 6-4 in the OAC. With its losses, Capital dropped to 6-18 overall and 0-10in the OAC.
In the first game, B-W scored one run in the first, another in the second, then Capital plated one in the second, then B-W put two runs on the board in the third and another run in the seventh to take a 5-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh where Capital could only score two runs and B-W went on for the 5-3 win.
At the plate, B-W was led by junior first baseman Riley Kreisher (Ashtabula/Edgewood) who was two-for-four with a double, two runs-batted-in and two runs scored. In addition senior shortstop Nick Radca (Amherst/Steele) was two-for-four with a run scored, junior catcher Matt Bolte (Jupiter, Fla./William T. Dwyer) was two-for-three with a RBI and a run scored and senior second baseman Nate Luken (Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne) was two-for-three with a RBI.
On the mound, Yellow Jacket sophomore Scott Luthman (Celina/Celina) gave up three runs on seven hits, while striking out four Crusader batters and allowed three bases-on-balls to improve to 4-0 overall.
In the second game, with the game tied at 4-4 in the 10 inning, sophomore lrightfielder Ben Stoper (Medina/Senior) hit a two-out RBI single to score senior leftfielder Shaun Slater (Wooster/Norwayne) for the game-winning run.
Radca led the Yellow Jackets going, three-for-four with two RBI. In addition, Slater was two-for-five with two runs scored, junior centerfielder Cody Kidd (Wellington) was two-for-six with two runs scored and a RBI, and Kreisher and Bolte were each two-for-four.
Sophomore Justin Novak (Strongsville) pitched nine innings, giving up four runs on nine hits, while striking out two and walking two to pick-up the win and improve his record to 2-2. Sophomore Cory Hanawalt (Doylestown/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) pitched the 10th inning and picked-up his first save of the season.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on tomorrow (Tuesday, April 15) when they travel to Alliance, Ohio for a 1:00 p.m. OAC doubleheader with Mount Union College.
