Baldwin Wallace University Baseball Team Falls to Nation’s Number One-Ranked Wooster, 18-12, in Berea

BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team lost its home opener today (Thursday, March 29, 2007) to number one-ranked (American Baseball Coaches' Association/Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division III) The College of Wooster, at Heritage Field in Berea, Ohio.

With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 6-8 overall and Wooster improves to 16-0 overall.

On the mound for Baldwin Wallace was senior righthander Jim Wochele (Richmond Hts.) who pitched four and two-third innings and gave up 12 runs. Sophomore Jim Palko (Euclid) entered the game to pitch one and one-third innings and gave up four runs. Freshman Justin Novak (Strongsville) pitched the seventh inning and allowed two runs and struck out two. Freshman Corey Hanawalt (Doylestown/St. V. St. Mary) pitched two shutout innings to end the game.

At the plate, BW’s offense was led by senior catcher Bob Storesina (Canton/Glenoak) as he went two-of-four at the plate with four runs batted-in. Sophomore first baseman Riley Kreisher (Astabula/Edgewood) had two basehits in four at-bats, including three runs scored. Sophomore outfielder Matt Brisky (Berea) also had two basehits in five at-bats, including a double and a run batted-in.

BW next plays on Saturday, March 31 when it hosts OAC conference foe Capital University at 1:00 p.m. indoubleheader.  Saturday’s games versus Capital is being billed as “BW Baseball to Benefit Bluffton College Baseball”. Prior to the games, during the games, between games and following the games, the BW baseball team will seek donations to benefit the Bluffton College team that was beset by a tragic bus accident on its way to Florida to begin its season.
