With its split, the Yellow Jackets move to 12-16 overal and 5-7 in the OAC. With its split, Wilmington is now 14-12 overall and 4-7 in the OAC.
In the first game, Wilmington jumped out to a 3-0 lead with three runs in the top of the second inning before B-W tied it 3-3 with three runs of its own in the bottom of the fourth stanza. The Quakers then took a 7-3 lead with a three-run sixth and one more in the top of the seventh inning before B-W tied it again with a four-run bottom of the seventh. The Yellow Jackets scored the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning with his second sacrifice fly of the game by sophomore designated hitter Matt Bolte (Jupiter, Fla./ William T. Dwyer).
Offensively,B-W had a total of 17 base hits and was led by sophomore centerfielder Cody Kidd (Wellington), junior shortstop Nick Radca (Amherst/ Steele) and sophomore first baseman Riley Kreisher (Ashtabula/ Edgewood) each with three base hits.
On the mound, senior righthanded staff ace Clayton Kynkor (Auburn Township/ Kenston) started and pitched the first five and two-third innings. He was followed to the mound by senior J.D. Fullerton (Cuyahoga Falls) in the sixth, freshman Jim Palko (Euclid) who pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth innings, sophomore Brandon Fredericks (Akron/ Richfield Revere) who pitched a scoreless 10th and 11th innings and freshman Corey Hanawalt (Doylestown/ Akron St. Vincent - St. Mary) in the 12th. Hanawalt gained the victory by pitching a scoreless 12th.
In the nightcap, Wilmington jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the top of the first inning before B-W scored twice in the bottom of the first and added one in the second and three in the third to get as close as 7-6. The Quakers added four runs in the fourth to increase their advantage to 11-6 before B-W closed to within 11-8 with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the frame. A Wilmington insurance tally in the top of the sixth gave it the win and split of the twinbill.
Offensively, Kidd again led the way with three more base hits and Radca, Kreisher and junior second baseman Nate Luken (Dayton/ Chaminade-Julienne) each had a pair of safeties.
On the mound, sophomore Jim Jaskowak (Grove City, Pa./ Grove City) started and suffered the loss to fall to 3-2 overall. He pitched three plus innings was followed to the mound by senior Jim Wochele (Richmond Heights) in the fourth.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Sunday, April 22 when they host nonleague foe Lake Erie College in a single game at Heritage Field at 3:00 p.m. A Junior Varsity game versus Mount Union College will take place at 12:00 noon.
