The Baldwin Wallace University Baseball Team Upends Walsh University, 6-4, in North Canton
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated Walsh University, 6-4, today (March 25, 2007) in North Canton. With its victory, the Yellow Jackets improve to 6-6 overall. Walsh falls to 7-14.
The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning with three runs. Walsh would answer with two in the bottom of the fifth to close to within 3-2. BW then scored once in the seventh for a 4-2 lead before Walsh tied it at 4-4 with a pair of its own in the bottom of the frame. BW then won the game with single tallies in the eighth and ninth innings.
At the plate, BW was led by junior outfielder/ designated hitter Shaun Slater (Wooster/ Norwayne) as he went two-of-four at the plate with a run batted-in. Sophomore first baseman Riley Kreisher (Ashtabula/ Edgewood) had two base hits in four at-bats, including his second and third doubles of the season. He also scored two runs.
On the mound, junior pitcher Clayton Kynkor (Auburn Township/ Kenston) started and received his team-leading third win. Kynkor pitched seven strong innings and is now 3-1 this season. Senior reliever J.D. Fullerton (Cuyahoga Falls) came on in the eighth inning for his sixth appearance of the season and tossed a scoreless inning of relief. Then senior catcher and closer Bob Storesina (Canton/ GlenOak) pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his first save this spring.
BW will next play on Tuesday, March 27, in a varsity/ junior varsity doubleheader at Malone College starting at 1:00 p.m. The Yellow Jackets also host currently 15-0 and unbeaten Wooster in its 2007 home opener on Thursday, March 29 at Heritage Field at 3:30 p.m. BW ends next week when it opens 2007 Ohio Athletic Conference play by hosting Capital University in a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
The BW versus Capital doubleheader also will be the BW Baseball Bluffton College Baseball Benefit Game. All next week, the BW baseball team will be taking donations that will go to benefit the Bluffton College team that was beset with tragedy on its spring break trip a few weeks ago.
