BW Baseball Team Shuts Out Thiel (Pa.), 8-0, to Improve to 2-0 Overall in Ft. Myers, Florida

BEREA, OHIO The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team won its second straight game on its annual spring break trip when it shut out Thiel (Pa.) College, 8-0, at the annual Gene Cusic Classic Tournament in Ft. Myers, Florida. BW is playing eight varsity and four junior varsity games in seven days on the trip.

The Yellow Jackets, 2-0 overall, scored three runs in the bottom of the first, added one in the third, three more in the fourth and an insurance run in the sixth to shut out the Tomcats.

On the mound, sophomore righthander Jim Jaskowak (Grove City, Pa./ Grove City) gained the win as he limited Thiel to five base hits in seven innings pitched. He was sharp as he struck out six Tomcat batters and did not allow a base on balls. Freshman Justin Novak (Strongsville) relieved Jaskowak and tossed two shutout innings as he allowed a pair of base hits and struck out one in his collegiate debut.

Offensively, sophomore first baseman Riley Kreisher (Ashtabula/ Edgewood) had his second strong day at the plate with three base hits, two runs scored and two runs batted-in in four at-bats. Sophomore centerfielder Cody Kidd (Wellington) had two hits, was hit by a pitch for the third time in two games and scored three runs, and junior leftfielder Kevin Shenker (Twinsburg) had a pair of base hits and an RBI.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday (March 6) when they play a doubleheader against Central Missouri State University at 12:00 p.m.  In addition, BW will now play Ohio Athletic Conference and Greater Cleveland cross town rival John Carroll University in a single varsity game followed by a J.V. game on Thursday, March 8 as a replacement for games against Bluffton University due to a tragic bus accident last week.
