BW Baseball Team Defeats St. Vincent (Pa.), 9-3, in Final Game of its Spring Break Trip in Florida

BEREA, OHIO The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated St. Vincent (Pa.) College, 9-3, today (Saturday, March 10, 2007) in the final; game of its annual spring break trip at the Gene Cusic Classic Tournament in Ft. Myers, Florida.

The Yellow Jackets, 5-4 overall, ended a brief two-game losing streak. St. Vincent is 5-5 overall after its loss.

BW scored once in the top of the first and St. Vincent tied it with a run of its own in the bottom of the frame. The Jacket offense took over at that point and scored two runs in each the third through the sixth to take a 9-1 advantage. St. Vincent scored the final two runs of the game in the eighth.

On the mound, snior righthander Brian Pille (Lorain/ Catholic) started and pitched the first four innings and allowed one run. He was followed by senior righthander Jim Wochele (Richmond Heights) who threw three scoreless innings and earned the win to improve to 1-1 overall. In addition, freshmen Brian Boveington (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) tossed a scoreless ninth inning.

Offensively, junior second baseman Nate Luken (Dayton/ Chaminade-Jullian) had three hits, two runs scored and a pair of runs batted-in. Sophomore Matt Bolte (Jupiter, Fla./ William T. Dwyer) continued his hot hitting with a pair of hits, scored two runs and drove in his team-leading 15th of the trip and in just seven games played. Sophomore first baseman Riley Kriesher (Ashtabula/ Edgewood) also had a pair of base hits. Sophomore centerfielder Cody Kidd (Wellington) scored three runs.

The Yellow Jackets open northern play on Sunday, March 18 when they play a doubleheader at Urbana University at 1:00 p.m.
