Baldwin Wallace University Baseball Team is Swept by Otterbein, 16-4 and 7-3, in Westerville
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team lost twice in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader with OAC rival Otterbein College today (Tuesday, April 17, 2007) in Westerville. The Cardinals won the first game, 16-4, and the second game 7-3.
With its loss, the Yellow Jackets are now 9-14 overall and 3-5 in the OAC. With its win, Otterbein is now 20-6 and 8-2 in the OAC.
In the first game, BW jumped out to a 3-0 lead with three runs in the top of the third inning before Otterbein scored in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to 3-1. BW built its lead to 4-1 with a run in the fourth but then the walls fell in as the Cardinals scored six times in the bottom of the fifth and nine more times in the sixth to win going away.
Despite the loss, the Yellow Jacket offense was paced by sophomore centerfielder Cody Kidd (Wellington) and sophomore first baseman Riley Kreisher (Ashtabula/ Edgewood) with three hits each. Kidd also scored a pair of runs. Kreisher scored once and had two runs batted-in. On the mound, senior righthandser Clayton Kynkor (Auburn Township/ Kenston) started and took the loss to fall to 4-3 overall.
In the nightcap, BW took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first before Otterbein tied it with a run of its own in the first and another in the second for a 2-1 advantage. BW tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the third, but the Cardinals scored three times in the fifth for a 5-2 lead. BW made it 5-3 with a run in the top of the sixth, but Otterbein again responded with two runs of its own for the nightcap win.
At the plate, BW had just four hits, one each by four different players. On the mound, sophomore right Jim Jaskowak (Grove City, Pa./ Grove City) suffered his first loss of the year to fall to 3-1.
The Yellow Jackets return to action tomorrow, Wednesday, April 18 when they travel to Alliance for an OAC twinbill at Mount Union College at 1:00 p.m. On Thursday, April 19, BW hosts nonleague foe Myers University in a single game at 2:00 p.m., then hosts Wilmington College on Saturday, April 21 in an OAC doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. and ends the week by playing Lake Erie College at Classic Park in Eastlake on Sunday, April 22 at 12:00 noon.
