Baldwin Wallace University Baseball Team Sweeps Muskingum, 8-4 and 11-3, in Berea
BEREA, OHIO-- The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team swept an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader from Muskingum College, 8-4 and 11-3, today (Friday, April 13, 2007) at Heritage Field in Berea.
With its two wins, the Yellow Jackets are now 9-10 overall and 3-1 in the OAC. With its two losses, Muskingum fell to 17-7 overall and 0-4 in the OAC.
In the first game, BW gained a 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth but Muskingum took a 4-1 advantage with four runs of its own in the top of the fifth. Undaunted, BW scored five times in the bottom of the fifth and twice more in the sixth to gain its win. In the five-run fifth, the key blow was a three-run homerun by sophomore centerfielder Cody Kidd (Wellington).
On the mound, senior staff ace and righthander Clayton Kynkor (Auburn Township/ Kenston) gained his fourth win of the season to improve to 4-2 overall. He pitched five innings, allowed four base hits and struck out six Fighting Muskie batters. Seniors J.D. Fullerton (Cuyahoga Falls) and Bob Storesina (North Canton/ GlenOak) each pitched a scoreless inning of relief to preserve the win. The hitting attack was led by sophomore designated hitter Matt Bolte (Jupiter, Fla./ William T. Dwyer) with a pair of base hits and two tuns batted-in.
In the nightcap, Muskingum jumped out to a 1-0 lead before BW scored three times in the first, three more in the second and added four more in the third for a 10-1 advantage and en route to its sweep.
On the mound, sophomore righty Jim Jaskowak (Grove City, Pa./ Grove City) scattered four hits in five innings and struck out five Muskies as he improved to a perfect 3-0 this season. Freshman Justin Novak (Strongsville) pitched the final two innings. At the plate, sophomore first baseman Riley Kreisher (Ashtabula/ Edgewood) led the way as he was three-of-three with a triple and five RBI. Junior rightfielder Mike Brisky (Berea) also had a pair of base hits and an RBI.
The Yellow Jackets return to the Heritage Field tomorrow, Saturday, April 14 when they host another Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University at 1:00 p.m. BW remains at home on Sunday, April 15 when it plays a single nonleague game versus Lake Erie College at 2:00 p.m.
