The Baldwin Wallace University Baseball Team Loses to Lake Erie, 8-7

BEREA, OHIO --  The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team lost to nonleague foe Lake Erie College, 8-7, today (Sunday, April 22, 2007) at Heritage Field in Berea.

With its loss, the Yellow Jackets fell to 12-17 overall while Lake Erie falls to 12-20 overall.
       
Lake Erie jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top olf the first inning and added another run in the third for a 3-0 advantage before BW scored a run of its own in the bottom of the frame to make it a 3-1 score. The Storm scored twice in the sixth and three more times in the seventh and built its largest lead at 8-2. The Yellow Jackets made it close with a sixth-run eighth to cut it to 8-7. BW had runners on first and second base when the final out of the ninth was recorded.

Despite the loss and offensively,BW had 11 total base hits, including three by junior second baseman Nate Luken (Dayton/ Chaminade-Julienne) and a pair each by sophomore centerfielder Cody Kidd (Wellington) and junior rightfielder Mike Brisky (Berea).

On the mound, freshman Justin Novak (Strongsville) started and took the loss to fall to 0-2 this season. He pitched five innings before giving way to senior J.D. Fullerton (Cuyahoga Falls) in the sixth, junior Kevin Shenker (Twinsburg) and freshman Scott Luthman (Celina) in the seventh and senior catcher/ pitching “stopper” Bob Storesina (Canton/ GlenOak) tossed a scoreless eighth and ninth innings, including striking out the side in the eighth.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, April 25 when they host Ohio Athletic Conference rival Heidelberg College in an OAC doubleheader at Heritage Field at 1:00 p.m.  Then on Friday, April 27, BW hosts Oberlin College in its final home game of 2007 on Seniors’ Day at 4:00 p.m.
